Need recommendation of prescription gun glasses

wan't sure weather to put this here or under accessories, but it is an "optic" item.

can anyone recommend a good brand of shooting glasses that have a prescription option to them?

    thanks in advance!

I picked out a nice pair of safety glasses at my local LensCrafters and had them put my prescription in them. Used my FSA account to pay for them. Done in about a week.

Most of the brands out there allow for it… Rudy, Oakley, Hunters Gold, WileyX, etc.

      Check out SportsRx

have you seen those that have actual glasses built in behind the main lens?

i was there last night looking. saw these. a little pricey, but

The Oakley Flak 2.0 XL has been an Oakley staple for years now. Its predecessor, the Flak Jacket XLJ, was already a great frame and Oakley fine-tuned it to make it even better! The 'XL' refers to the taller lenses which provide more coverage, but there is also a Flak 2.0 (non-XL) with the exact same frame chassis and slightly shorter lenses. Oakley Flak 2.0 XL sunglasses are constructed with Oakley’s proprietary O Matter™ for amazing durability and ultra-lightweight comfort. Unobtainium® earsocks and nosepads and Oakley’s Three-Point-Fit system help keep your glasses securely in place even if you break a sweat. If you are interested in using these for a particular sport, you should really check out PRIZM™ lenses. These are sport-specific lenses that boost contrast and allow you to perform at your best! Need prescription Oakley Flak 2.0 XL sunglasses? Done. Call or chat with our friendly Sports Opticians if you have any questions about ordering Oakley Flak 2.0 XL prescription sunglasses. And as always, we offer free shipping & returns!

Were you thinking of using an insert? Or a ballistic Rx lens? There are Pros and Cons to each... For preference for a curved frame, using inserts, in my experience, sucks!

Yeah, Oakley are pricey... What were you expecting? A $100 Rx for shooting? Might as well go with SSP Eyewear then (analogy are the reading glasses you find at pharmacies)...

But what you need to know is that it is the lens rather than the frame is the bulk of the cost. I have friends using Hunters Gold - $300+ ... Some with Rudy Project NA, yeah, $300+ ....

This is what I had with WileyX from SportRx. I liked the lens. But I had to return it (to a full refund) simply because the frame didn't fit with my Asian nose, and decided to compete in a different division that doesn't require me using a prescription.

I've been using insert RX since the 1992-3 when Bolle first introduced them. Currently using Rudy's. Downside is you are looking through two sets of lenses and it sits a little further away from your face. Upside is you can change lens colors for the condition your are in.

Buy the glasses off eBay will save you a bit off of retail and just order the RX lenses.

interesting. i had never seen anything like that before. was curious what they felt like. good assessment of pros/cons. i would prefer to just look through 1 lens. If i can get an "oakly-type" shades that have prescription ground into the single lens that would be great.

is yellow the best tint or is it a yellow orange color. i've seen a few different colors. google seems to think that yellow is the best, but i don't always trust google.

i'm a cyclist from the 1980/90's. i worked in a pro bike-shop in college. even though i was wearing oakly irridiums, i recall one of Bolle's selling points was that you could wear your prescription glasses under the bolle frames. i think i bought the Irridiums for $100, and the Bolle's were prices around $150-$250... a lot of money at the time. so $300 today is not really that bad.

i just wish i could try on the frames to make sure they fit..........like you indicated that they didn't fit your face. don't want that to happen on any pair of glasses, shooting or regular.

if you do that, how does the lens company know what lens to use? do they just have all the vendor in stock or do they have to custom order the lens from, say Oakley, or do they use the existing lenses?

i would think that the prescription lenses would be a completely different material than the standard lens.

Have you checked with your optometrist? My doctor turned out to be very pro-2A. Even if yours is not there are options out there that your doctor should be able to help you with. They may be able to help you with insurance coverage as well if you have eye insurance.

The lenses come as a circular blank in various diopter. They are cut to size to match the frame and your pupil distance. The cutting is done with a CNC mill. You have 3 choices, buy the glasses from them, send in your glasses, or they send you just the lens.

I currently use the Rudy Rydons. The insert clips onto the groove on the frame. You may have to adjust the nose piece so the RX doesn't touch you eyelashes.

As for color, if it is sunny out, I run dark lenses. Mixed lighting, transitions. Overcast/rain is red or yellow. Shoot house/low light would be clear. That's the advantage of using RX on an insert.

Here's Rudy Rydon RX insert, this is the old style. New style is frameless on the bottom.

I took a shooting class a while back with the misses and the instructor there recommended Smith Optics or Leupold for prescription. I did consider it being that I have 20/40 vision but refuse to wear my regular prescription glasses lol.
