Opinion or experience with Leupold Freedom 4-12x40?

I'm about to buy a new scope for my .308 Henry Single Shot. I don't know if I'll ever get to take this thing hunting but I'd like to target shoot out to about 250 maybe 300 yards. Will this scope and magnification be good enough? It can be had with a plain duplex reticle or a Tri-MOA reticle. Not sure if I need the Tri-MOA reticle or should just stick to the basics with this rifle/scope combo. Would anyone care to share their experiences or opinions? Thanks for any advice!

If you're talking 300 yards, you'll be just fine with a 3-9x40 scope. Go ahead and get that and save yourself some money. Nothing wrong with the Tri-MOA reticle, but with a .308 Winchester, your point-blank shooting range is going to be about 250-300 yards, depending on your barrel length and your load. With that said, there's nothing wrong with getting the 4-12x.

As for the Leupold VX-Freedom line, Ive got the VX-Freedom AR in 3-9x40, and the turrets feel a little mushy similar to Redfield Revolutions, but, like the Revolutions, the VX-Freedoms are solid riflescopes and do the job well. So the turrets are a litle mushy. You can still feel the clicks, so it's not really a problem.

Thanks guys. I did a little more research and bought the 4-12x40mm. I think it will be good enough for my needs.

I have a 4-12x40 on my 300 mag.i usually shoot 250 yards to 350 its great for that range and can go further if needed.

Its not a leupold but a nikon prostaff4 mil dot reticle.previous scope was a weaver 3-9 but i like the higher power for myself,
