I've gone back and forth way to much trying to decide on a red dot. I noticed last night that Trijicon has a $100 rebate on the RMRcc until the end of the month. Order placed. I had just picked up a new optics ready slide from sig. This combo should give me a good feel for red dots. My main concern is how they will work with my progressive lenses. I've been struggling to shoot with my glasses. Hopefully this will be a workable alternative. Has anyone here used this mini dot? Did you mill your slide for unusual footprint? I picked up a plate as well, did you use one? Any tips for mounting and sighting it in?

Shooting with glasses has proved to be challenging. Do-able at the range, but clearly not functional. I'm looking for a workable solution for all day use but functional for carry as well. Progressives just don't seem to be working for this. My doctor suggested a right eye close left eye far approach. I tried this with contacts but didn't like them. Perhaps it time to give it a try with glasses. You should have first checked how the RDS will work with your progressives. In my case, the dot looks different depending on from which part of the lens I am looking at - which, practically, negates the advantages of a red dot. So, when using carry optics - I use plano!
Sighting in? 10-yards. Check out the “Modern Samurai Project” or other RDS SMEs like Gabe Suarez of Suarez International/Suarez Tactical for the rationale for a 10-yard zero.
LASTLY - take a RED DOT SPECIFIC training class.
Thanks for the tips on the videos. They're very informative. I'm enjoying them.
Definitely planning on training. I've never looked for or seen red dot specific classes. I will have to find some in my area.
Thanks againWould like to buy 357 Maximum ammo.Comment

I did know the footprints going into this. I know the Holosun would mount without a plate. I try to buy US when it's a viable option. Especially not made in China products. Sometimes it's not an option. If it is, I prefer to exercise it. I'm not rich by any means, but I don't mind spending a little more to do this. In this case, it seems like the Trijicon fits this bill. Highly rated and durable. The downsides being the increased height of the plate and no co-witness sites. The co-witness thing doesn't bother me, at least in my mind without any experience. The height, well, it is what it is.Would like to buy 357 Maximum ammo.Comment

Dennis - I agree about buying made in America and not made in China. For me for a ride that I would like green and I would like the radical to be circle back. Unfortunately Polo son is the only company as far as I know that makes that. for pistols. I wish that Trijicon did. I would be there in a second. But I like having that big circle to identify the dot quickly.Comment

The nice thing about progressive lenses is that a RDS is not close-up like reading, it's further out. So you can just find the spot in your lens that is focused just like looking through iron sights. No difference that I can tell between RDS and iron sights with progressive lenses.CRPA MemberComment

Have you taken an RDS in a more dynamic environment when having a progressive lens? Lots of movement? Shooting from non-conventional positions? Shooting sideways or at an angle? Shooting from your non-dominant side from cover? Shooting from your non-dominant visual side from cover? Shooting from an extreme lean? Shooting from prone? Or from a low port? The nice thing about progressive lenses is that a RDS is not close-up like reading, it's further out. Well, I have... And there are times that I see a distorted dot, two dots, a splashed out dot, etc. Yeah, I can re-orient that gun, my eyes, my head, etc. to find that spot in your lens to get a clear dot - but those are precious split seconds that one cannot afford to lose... It basically negates the advantages of a red dot. Well, unless you are simply shooting standing in an indoor static range - carry on.

My RMRcc came in today and I mounted it up. I totally understand what you're saying now. Only time will tell as I get some time behind it. I went with an additional slide to be able to sell if I can't adapt to this setup. You should have first checked how the RDS will work with your progressives. When you say "plano" are you saying single focal plane lenses? I know you're a competitor, do you use the same lenses for every day use?Would like to buy 357 Maximum ammo.Comment

I am farsighted. In my day-to-day - the only time I use glasses is when I am on my computer and/or reading (two different glasses). I don't wear glasses when I EDC, like when I am competing with an RDS - no vision correction.

I finally got a chance to take this out today. I'm very happy with the setup in general. I'm definitely going to need to work with this. I see every little movement. Static is ok. Once I get a little better, I'm looking forward to achieving more versatility. Overall, I'm happy I did this. It allows me another area to grow.
Side note, today at the range, another shooter was working on speed drill of some kind. Wow, I would have never imagined shooting that fast, that accurately. Impressive.Would like to buy 357 Maximum ammo.Comment

You would be amazed at what is possible with a firearm...
Glock 17 Gen 3 with a Trijicon SRO 5.0MOA.
While the slide is 3rd-party to accommodate an optic, the rest of the gun is factory. Ammo is factory 115GR... Two dynamic targets (clamshell + swinger) - all "Alpha"...
Still, was not the fastest...
