Advice on Eotech for a M1A

I have a Springfield M1A in black and I wanted to put an Eotech on the gun. I have the mounts that goes over the mag and not the one in the front. I could only find pictures of Socoms with the Eotech in the front and not in the back and none on a full sized M1A.
I was wondering if anyone here has a picture of it so I can see how it looks with it on and any other information regarding the situation.

    Thanks

    Don't do it.

The EOTech sits high above the mount, which is already high above the barrel.

    There are better options.

If you're married to it, there's nothing that says you can't.

What do you recommend for a better choice?

Get a good scope. Your rifle can easily reach out 800 yards. Get a bushnell 4200, or Leoupold scope and you'll do fine.
My M1A Loaded sports a bushnell 4200 6x24-40 on a 3rd generation mount. It has held a cold first shot zero right on bullseye at 100 yards with NATO Ammunition Q3130.

I kind of wanted to stay in the realm of a red dot or low zoom scope. I understand that this gun is probably best suited with a longer range scope but I kind of wanted to steer away from that for now. Plus I have a magnifying scope that I'll probably take off another gun for it later so...

On a Scout rifle it would be appropriate. on the M1A NOT. If you can't get a 6" group at 200 yards with iron sights a red dot, holosight or other CQB scope won't help you.

It's your rifle, I say do what you want with it.

For what you want to do you'd have to go with an Ultimak rail: http://www.ultimak.com/M8.htm

The other posters are right about the Eotech though, it's too high. I'd go with an Aimpoint M2 or M3 series mounted in a low ring, or an Aimpoint Micro T1/H1. The Micro is the slickest setup of the two but more $$.

If you want a magnified scope to sit on a forward rail like the Ultimak, your options are pretty limited. The only one I know of that gives the proper eye relief, which I think is 9-10", is the Leupold Scout scope. There may be others, I don't know.

Otherwise just go with a regular scope mounted above the ejection port. In that case you have thousands of options and I would suggest reading up on different scope related threads to figure out what you need before you start drilling down into specific models.

I liked the Eotechs and I've seen aimpoints on the M1A before but more mainly with the Scouts.
Like I said, its unconventional but I'm not out there searching rooms for fighting terrorists with it.

I guess the Aimpoint is probably the most legit for what I am looking for. Just wanted a confirmation on if the Eotech would be a good decision and it looks like it's not.

                    Thanks

It just puts everything an extra 1.5" higher.
