That's not much detail on what actually happened with you. Did they give you an explanation, or did they just say "can't do it" and you waked away without asking why?
FWIW, I've never had an issue shipping "telescopes" through UPS, which is what I assume you meant to say.Comment

Visual aids. (for optics)

UPS company policy is not to ship firearms or receivers by non-FFLs. Independent UPS stores have "in-house" policies regarding "parts". Go to another shop, re-label as suggested.Comment

Your mistake was going in to the United Larcel Service
store with the unpackaged item, saying "I have nothing I need to ship this, so I need to buy everything." Buy your own box, pack it up yourself, tape it securely yourself, then go to them with a fully wrapped, unmarked box and pay your postage.
No need to lie or stretch the truth, no need for them to know the contents. They ask general questions like if it's a hazmat or flammable, but that's it.---------------------

Optics are not parts and you have no obligation to tell them it's related to guns in any way, shape or form. If they ask, just say sporting goods or sex toys if you want.Last edited by Mute; 09-01-2022, 2:06 PM.NRA Benefactor Life Member

FWIW, I always box up my own things and when using UPS just take the box to the local UPS Store. While doing up the label, they always ask, "What's the contents?" I just say, "telescope", "tool", or "machine component" or something similarly accurate yet vague. They have never, to my recollection ever asked about hazardous materials. Kinda odd now that I think about it.
The USPS, on the other hand, always ask about hazmat, or rather have me attest using a touchpad that what I'm mailing does not contain hazardous materials or explosives. Happens even when it's just a business envelop containing a tax payment. Maybe because it's going to the Gov't LOL.
