    Advice, experience mounted lights AR?

Just got a new AR-15 and I've got everything I want on it except a light. I've got my front grip, Aimpoint comp m4, magpul accessories, just looking for either a light or a laser. I don't really like the idea of a laser, but I'm open to suggestions and or opinion about them. I'm a Surefire fan, but I've been looking at the Fenix brand, I like the idea of using AA batteries. Once again, however, I'm open to be convinced otherwise. I'm looking for a high quality light under $500, preferably with a pressure button/switch. Send the ideas.

You can go lightweight and compact with a Surefire X200 or X300. Also Streamlight makes a similar compact rail mounted light for less money. They also have one with an integrated visible laser.

have you tried an AR with a laser on it before? fun and fast target acquisition indoors. definitely worth the money if you plan on actually USING it. if you want a combo kit, i reccomend this.

its a great unit. when i got mine there were no adjustments needed on the laser, the light has the pressure pad but you can also replace the tail caps with standard push-button.

the stand alone light units are also top knotch. if you like surefire you will love pentagonlight

i also have a surefire L6 scout setup, and a TLR1 i also use from time to time. if you want simplicity, go with a TLR or a X200.

That's pretty sweet, what's the battery and run time? Didn't see on the link, do you know off-hand?

FWIW, lasers are really only useful for low light engagements. Don't expect to use them like you see in the movies, blazing through the day, chasing the dot around to the target. They are merely a useful aid when shooting under stress in low light conditions.

Of course, IR laser + NODs = night fighter

            Thanks, looking into them now!

runtime on the laser? heck, i've had this thing on the same laser battery for 5 months still going. as far as the light output i think its around 85-95 lumens of incandescent light. it runs on 2 standard CR123 batteries.

if i had to make one change i would get the LED version instead. the big problem with pistol lights is switching. they are very convenient and small to use on a rifle but dont look for modularity with push buttons and different switches. thats why i prefer more a traditional flashlight setup.

did i mention alot of surefires products are directly interchangeable/compatible with pentagonlight!

                THIS

Visible lasers are very mall ninjaish. Think about looking through your aimpoint with the laser on. Might confuse you in a stressful situation.

I have fenix tk10 in a vltor offset mount on my carbine... Super bright and the mount puts the light in a perfect position... All for about $130

                    I'll give you my preferences...

I've run cabled lights (they get hung up on kit and I find I engage them when I don't want to), M900 SureFire (too heavy) and more...

I've decided I like simple. I've been running LED SureFires in either LaRue or VTAC mounts. I REALLY like the VTAC SureFire light, too. It's basically the SureFire scout light for less than 1/2 price.

That Pentagon light/laser combo does look good.

I only use lights on my long guns. Some of the best I've used are the Surefire X300 with a flag switch and the Fenix TK11 (also with a flag switch). Of the 2, the X300 is the smaller one. Both are bright and excellent.

Awesome guys, thanks. All good suggestions. In my own research I've been hearing a lot about these Fenix TK10's and 11's and two of you guys mentioned those. Any intensive experience with Fenix? I do like the rechargeable batteries with longer run time for the TK11 and the prices for these things are unbelievably low.

I've been less impressed with Fenix since i've had two Fenix lights with "issues" now in the past 6mos. 2 out of about 8. Until then they'd all been flawless.

I buy for peace of mind on anything I think I'll NEED, but if you want to keep your budget low, Fenix is an OK option.

SureFire if you want to know it will work.

I was afraid to hear that... I love surefire but their battery life sucks in comparison. In every other aspect I love surefire.

                              SureFire LEDs do just fine.

                              My favorite is this:

                              On a budget, a G2 LED runs for 12hours with 80lumens for about $60.
