Best optic for AR with 20 inch barrel

I just bought an AR with a CMT 1:7 twist barrel. I was thinking of going with an acog but I read that they are designed to work with 14.5 and 16 inch barrels.

Any one have any recommendations? I want an optic that has at least 4x magnification...

"Best" is such a relative term, it's really pointless to ask. For a 20" AR there are many options for optics, but application is more important than anything. ACOGs are a great choice, but some have BDCs that are calibrated for specific barrel lengths and loads (M855 or M193, for example). If you're going for more of a precision rifle, then as mentioned a 2.5-10x NXS is great (it's what I prefer on my 18" SPR). Also, a variable 1-4x is a good choice too and the newer AccuPoints look promising in that regard.

Not really going for ultra precision just want a diff setup than my eotech and magnifier.... What acog model would be suitable for a 20 inch barrel? I can't find that info on their website...

I would not chose a single power scope for a SPR. Why be STUCK with 4x magnification?. Precision or not.

If I did go with something like that, which mount works the best?

              ACOG!!

"The TA31RCO is an Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) designed for the M16A4 weapon system (20" barrel). It provides the shooter with quick target acquisition at close combat ranges while providing enhanced target identification and hit probability out to 800 meters utilizing the Bullet Drop Compensator. The TA31RCO incorporates dual-illumination technology using a combination of fiber optics and self-luminous tritium. This allows the aiming point to be always illuminated without the use of batteries. The Tritium illuminates the aiming point in total darkness, and the fiber-optic self-adjusts reticle brightness during daylight according to ambient light conditions. This allows the operator to keep both eyes open while engaging targets and maintaining maximum situational awareness.

Designed to the exact specifications of the United States Marine Corp, the unique reticle pattern provides the shooter with quick target acquisition at close combat ranges while providing enhanced target identification and hit probability out to 800 meters utilizing the Bullet Drop Compensator."

I shoot an ACOG TA-01 on my 20" AR. It is set up for 3 gun so targets from 5 feet to 300+ yds.

                        I would recommend a Leupold 2.5-8x36mm MR/T M2, 3.5-10x40mm MK4 M1, or the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32mm Midrange shooting.

For Close-Range use the Nightforce NXS 1-4x24mm, Leupold MR/T 1.5-5x24mm M2, and the TA31 or TA11 models would be a great way to go.

what do you guys think about the MARK AR 3-9x40mm?

I already have a carbine for CQB...You think it would be beneficial to get a scope with a little more magnification?

Right now it is between the Millet DMS and this Mark AR riflescope...Can't make a decision
