I bought a 15x45x65 from Bass Pro (Cabella's brand) a year or two ago that's pretty good. Looks good out to 100 yards with adequate eye relief for me. On sale it was under $500. Says it has HD glass. Feels heavy and well made. Fine for the range but probably to heavy to pack around on a hunt.

if you haven't bought anything yet, call doug at cameralandny.com and ask him what he can recommend for the price. there could be a sale, or he might have something that isn't 3-4lbs (if that is a lot to carry for hunting).

First: Vortex customer support is top notch. You won’t go wrong here. I had a Viper in the 20x60x80 neighborhood and quality was fine. I was able to compare side by side with friends Razor in the same magnification range and was surprised that I didn’t see much of a difference. Sure, I suppose the Razor was marginally better but I had to really get critical to notice the improvement of the razors glass. This probably has everything to do with me, my aging eyes and the fact that I was also comparing price. Was it better? Yes. But to me, not $500 better. I ended up returning the viper and got an Athlon Talos 20x60x80 from Amazon for $120. While I wasnot able to do a side by side comparison with the Viper, I did find the Athlon Talos was totally acceptable and kept it. I mean for a $100 it was quite a bargain and fits the bill for my purposes what was to simple spot target impacts out to 500 yards. I can only assume the diamond back will be a great option. I’m a huge vortex fan but $100 for a spotting scope??? Come on Man! Lol. My spotting scope is $300 cheaper than the tripod it sits on, (wasnt able to return it). Hahaha

Spotting scope

Not to hijack this post, but if anyone has a Leupold MK4 spotting scope i have a Serbian produced Zastava N-Pap to trade. As it sits it has a wooden stock, ALG trigger, anti walk plate, ALG extra power recoil spring, Krebs brake, Krebs safety, and Midwest industries rail.
Only 100 rounds fired.

I can include a brand new, unused
Pelican 1750 case with foam to store the rifle.
