    Ring height question

Hi I need some advice on a ring purchase.

Im buying the SS scope in 10x42. The exit glass is 42mm and the metal on the outside of the glass makes the end of the scope 42mm + x (x= metal surrounding exit lens). Im guessing the metal adds 3mm to the diameter of the scope making it aprox 45mm in dia. The scope has a 30mm tube so if I subtract 45 from 30 I have a distance of 15mm. Fifteen mm converted to inches is .60 so I would need a 3/4inch ring to clear my flat picatinny rail? Is my math and logic correct?

Is this for an AR? If so, see my reply in this thread:

That math sounds correct to me.

What rifle is this scope going onto? There are more factors to consider beyond just barrel clearance.
