Quality red dot for M&P Shield

    Hey all,

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good quality red dot for an M&P shield 9mm for ccw? Ive never installed any red dots on any of my firearms and am curious what people think is great for compact and carry? Holosun? Crimson Trace?

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

I am in the process of having the SwampFox Sentinel placed on my Shield 1.0
The next generation ultra-compact micro red dot sight optimized for every day carry on slimline pistol slides. No plastic body or polymer lens for us, only hard coated 7075 aluminum and multi-coated glass here. Sentinel offers very real advantages in defensive shooting situations. This open emitter dot sight is the perfect choice for all EDC applications. The Ultra-Compact Micro design allows for the fastest draw times possible.

The company I am planning to have done the milling is

With all the lint and stuff that collects on a carry gun, the new closed emitter Holosun EPS Carry seems to be the way to go. It uses the 407k/507k footprint. Coincidentally, I think the Holosun K series are currently leading the pack for CCW red dots.

Wow, another north DFW machine shop option. I had my P320 40 S&W slide cut for a 407K X2 at Vulcan Machine Werks in Plano for the same price ($125) back in October. Two and a half week turn around and they are 5 minutes from where I work so it was super convenient. Celina is only 20 minutes away and has a great BBQ restaurant (Tender's Smokehouse) and a good local winery (Eden Hill Vinyard).

I now have a 507K X2 on a PDP compact and a 407K X2 on my P320 and Ruger Mk IV 22/45. The circle-dot combo gives me a quick pointing sight picture which is easier to pick up over just the dot.

is it a waste of time to attach an outerimpact mounting plate?

Its just more reliable to have your slide milled I assume, but out of ease to swap things back to original should i want to, it appeared this gives you a viable option...

CCW means duty grade, so avoid hobby grade optics. No swamp fox, vortex, etc. Trijicon or Holosun. I don't know if Steiner or aimpoint make a smaller footprint dot. If you haven't already, take a dot course to practice presentation and occluded shooting.

Was it a CA Shield with pop up billboard?

@OP - shooting with a RDS is a bit different from using Irons. They are two different sighting systems - to be able to effectively use it, take a RED DOT-specific class.
