    Back up iron sights

Hey, folks. Might get roasted for this, but I figure I'd put it out here anyway.

Anyway, over the past couple weeks, I've been looking at back up irons and have yet to be able to settle on anything. Magpul BUIS seem to be popular, but I'm having difficulty justifying the price tag for what seems to me to be really expensive plastic -- am I missing something here? What do y'all recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

How much did you spend on your primary optics and what is the purpose of your rifle? That should give you an idea on how much to spend for BUIS.

Nothing wrong with plastic if it is made right...just ask your closest Glock fan boi. I have Magpul Pro BUIS and I think it is worth the price.

I really love Diamondhead Sights. You can co-witness them with a red dot, or buy a set of 45-degree off-set sights. It's been awhile but IIRC, I paid about $200 for either set.

I have the Magpul Mbus Pro on a few of my rifles.

I look at the irons like this: without a quality aiming device I am unlikely to hit my necessary target when it counts. I can spend less on my red dot knowing my Irons are accurate, will hold their BZ0 and are ready should the dot fail.

The Combat Rifle Sight Set is constructed of ordnance grade phosphate finished steel and uses standard A2 front sight post. Made by Midwest Industries. Shop All AR Front & Rear Sights.

I just checked and GrabAGun has them for around $135 right now.

I have an LPVO on one of my rifles. The issue with the rifle is the LPVO on it is the scope would sit right on top of the folded rear iron sight making the sights useless. Solution to that was getting a set of the Magpul MBUS Pro offset iron sights.

In the grand scheme of things, taking into consideration the amount of money you probably have invested into the rifle, why cheap out on a set of iron sights? Sure, if they are backup sights you probably won't use them much, but you get what you pay for, and there are many BUIS out there that cost much, much more.

What's the purpose of the rifle? Going into combat? Competition? Hunting? Range toy?

Do you even need them? Range rifle or ??

I use my buis often enough to keep skill current. Good quality metal sights are usually not a waste of money. Putting them on because everybody else has them can be a waste of money. Caveat emptor.

Haven't picked up the primary sight yet, but I was planning on picking up a Holosun 510 with a magnifier. Should I be looking at something different?

Since you have Magpul BUIS: what do you find makes them worth the price tag? From never having personally interacted with a set, it's difficult for me to discern their value compared to, say, a pair of aluminium Feyachis that are a quarter of the price. (Not saying I'd get them, just saying that they both look to do the same thing from my uninformed perspective.)

After reading all the replies thus far, I have a more specific question for y'all: what makes a pair of iron sights worth a price tag over 100 USD? What is it that they offer compared to something a fraction of the price off of Amazon? If we're talking red dot sights or scopes, I can understand, but iron sights? I'm having trouble making sense of it.

I have a few questions for you...

What rifle are you running? Is it an off the rack rifle so to speak or something you built/assembled yourself? If it was the latter would you be able to give us a breakdown of the parts and components you used?

If price is the selling point then the why doesn't really matter. There are eBay sight sellers du jour.

Why run them at all is the real why that matters.

Fixed bius buis, flip ups, offsets, etc. They play a roll depending on the use of the rifle.

Some guys have them because others have them, but rarely use irons themselves.
They do fill up rail space tho, so...

One example would be tool-less adjustment for windage and elevation.
