I have a 45 Colt in above. Currently has a Leupold 1-4 w/ hogplex reticle with Warne QR rings and Weaver base.
I actually have a small collection of JM Marlins. I can't see open sights anymore so all are wearing glass. I've tried to keep with the theme of Marlin/Leupold keeping them all USA.
Well..I recently added anther 45 Colt. This time with a 20" round barrel. I've been considering moving the Hogplex to the 20" and putting a reflex optic on the "Trapper". I can continue with Leupold albeit more $ than say Vortex or Burris. I do rather like the motion sensor concept. I'd like to keep it low profile an connect to either the Weaver or a rail is an option. I do have extra Warne bases for Weaver style rings as I wasn't fond of the scope positioning, hence changed to Weaver bases.
So anyone with experience with reflex red dot on a carbine? How about with poor near vision? Compelling reasons to divert from Leupold theme? Other USA considerations?
Another thought is to move the 2-7x33 w/ SABR reticle from the 45-70 (1895) to the new Colt and go with a 3-9x40 (either SABR or CDS dial) on the 45-70
