    A car on a hot summer day can get up to 160. I wouldn't go much higher than that because it can affect the grease and seals inside

        The Vortex owners guide, page 12, paragraph 5, under lubrication, says:

        “If possible, avoid exposing your Vortex riflescope to direct sunlight or any very hot location for long periods of time”

        Not sure why or if this helps.

          It makes sense, as Scotty mentioned above. Although I’m sure I’ve left my rifles w/optics in the sun for longer than recommended on summer dats without any noticeable issues.
