I've looked at a cheap truglo 6-24x44 riflescope from natchez for 60 bucks to slap on there for a short time while I can get a decent scope. This is probably the 3rd one and I was looking at a vortex scope from scott @ liberty but this is a third the price and that was only going to be a holdover scope anyway. I like the ridiculous amount of magnification it has and illuminated reticle, but was curious if anyone ever tried one of their scopes out.

Anybody ever use a truglo riflescope

I've got one.
I gave a little write up on it a while back, but it seems to be one of the threads that has mysteriously disapeared?
My thoughts are these:
- The glass is decent for the price, but not great. I've found the image loses clarity when you go above 20x.
- From what little I played with it, I did not find the elevation and windage adjustments to be predictable or repeatable to an acceptable level. Sometimes 8 clicks might equal an inch at 100 yards, other times it might take 6-7 clicks and yet other times perhaps 10. I put VERY little time into testing this (only shot the box one time), but I observed the variance while zeroing the scope on two different rifles.
- The power adjustment and adjustable objective rings are sticky in a couple places, but will in fact adjust.
- The illuminated reticle gives off some halo effect at the higher settings.
- The screw on caps are a PITA to put back on sometimes, but I guess they're better than no scope caps at all.
- The scope hasn't sat on any one rifle of mine for more than two range sessions (long story), so I can't really speak to how well it holds zero over time / repeat visits.
It's better than other scopes I've tried in the same price range, but that's not a glowing recomendation. I'd put this on a rifle I didn't expect much of, or use it for breaking in a gun / load workup (it's current role) until I can afford quality (or at least decent) glass.
It really is another case of you get what you pay for.
Regarding the Vortex Liberty is selling, I saw some positive remarks from Scott (at Liberty) a month or so ago in here. A few others gave some positive feedback too regarding the optical quality. I still haven't been able to find any reviews (basic Google and CG.net searches) that talk about it's repeatibility though.
Good luck,

Well I went ahead and snagged one from natchez as the fine hair reticle illuminated 6-24x44 with 3" and 5" sunshade was only $69.99. I couldn't beat that anywhere and most everywhere it retailed between $179 and $299 so for the price it couldn't be beat. I'll give a blunt review when it comes in. I'm going to mount it in a burris p.e.p.r. mount and see how she goes. I'll probably never really use it over 10x for the kind of shooting i'm doing but i'll play with it and see where it starts to get dim.Comment

Good luck with it. I'm not disapointed in mine, but I know I sure would be if I'd spent $200 on it.
Let us know how it works out for you.Comment

Yeah, for the price, its going to be a decent holdover but there's no way i'd spend 2 or 3 hundred on a scope like this.Comment

Adjustments really suck. Glass is decent for what you have payed for it. Higher magnification levels are blurry. over all well worth the $60. I have 3 of them I use on rimfires and an AR-15. Really make me like my Nikon.
I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.Comment

I'm either going for a used mkIV, nikon monarch, bushnell 4200 elite, or super sniper depending on money when I can sneak it by the wife.Comment
