Which Magnifier for EOTech 516?

I can't decide on what to get for my 16" AR. My buddy put a nice scope on his and when we go to the range it seems to be a huge advantage to have some magnification. I think I want the EOTech 4x, but I have sceen knock offs that are 5x mag for much less.

Is the 4x worth over twice as much as the 3x?

My buddy's scope was only like $200 and it has adjustable (up to 9x magnification) Why are the eotech magnifiers so expensive?

i am in the same place trying to figure out to get an eotech 4xts and 3x or just an brown acog with red dot doctor. the prices are mind boggling. the damn scopes cost more than the rifle, the cost is like buying a plasma or hd tv but for your rifle??? i get more use out of my tv's, it's like bling for your rifle. all these accessories that are available it's like buying jewelery but for your gun

This isn't a new question. Search and it's been answered before.

The older 3X is crap. The 4X is overpriced.

The new 3X is ok.

The Aimpoint 3X is still better.

They're expensive because: 1.) real optics cost $ & 2.) brand name.

Why not just get a scope instead. Weight savings and you can have the EoTech for close quarter .

What good would that be if I keep having to swap back and fourth?

I have 2 AR's one is a lightweight Bushmaster with BCM Carry handle the other has the eotech and a Troy BUIS.

I kind of like having the carry handle iron sights on my KIS build, but I am tempted to remove it for the eotech and put a scope on the other AR. But then the Troy sights would be useless...

But wouldn't having the magnification kind of give it the best of both worlds, and allow me to keep my BUIS ?

Just got rid of my LaRue Po Boy 2.5x magnifier+pivot mount.

1. Not enough magnification. If you are getting it for range use, it's not going to do much at 100 yards. Under 100 yards, you really don't need the magnifier.
2. Slows down target acquisition. Can't use both eyes open as well, if you even can. (I couldn't)
3. Adds weight. Can't believe how much better the rifle feels without it.
4. When are you going to be using the pivot feature? I did drills and even with the magnifier pivoted, it seems to be in the way.


What I ended up doing was just getting a scope setup for the range.
Ended up running around $60 for a cheaper one on sale and another $50 for rings.

HELP with sights

I just got a S&W M&P and I am trying to figure out what I want to do about sites. There are so many choices. Can someone tell me about the holographic sights (how they work, etc,) and do you need something else like a magnifier to go with it to work properly?

it says it takes batteries. is this true?

would it work for the aimpoint comp m4s?
