Just got the paperwork to send it back this morning.

I’ve Been a leupold user for nearly 30 years. I’m not going to let one issue stop me from using their scopes.

I hear that. Was the zero stop fully backed down? Any chance that it could be an improperly machined mount/base? If the new scope still requires shims, it may be a factor

Photo is hard to tell what's going on. Is there a big gap between the mount and the receiver? Is it a mount/base problem and not a scope problem?

Have you mounted a scope that you know for sure is good to the base? That should help you determine whether the issue is the scope or the base.

This is a dumb question, but are you sure the mount isn’t backwards? The way it looks (even without the shims) doesn’t look like it matches up with the receiver there.

I’ve used 2 different sets of rings/bases, same issue. I’ve had a couple different scopes mounted on this gun, all Leupolds, no issues with any of them. The shims “fixed” the symptom, but I want to know what the real problem is.

The scope was shipped back to leupold today. I’ll see what they say and will let you guys know.

Got a new scope from leupold for a very expensive rifle. I could not bore sight the scopes elevation. Even after turning the dial all the way, and bottoming out, I still couldn’t get it bore sighted.

I contacted Leupold and they said I needed to shim the back of the scope base up. They said I could use up to 4, I needed all 4 to get it dialed in.

I haven’t shot it yet, because I’m undecided if I should send the scope back to leupold.

I'm guessing the rifle is a Remington. That not unusual instead of shims you can bed the scope base. All of my Remington's has had the bases bedded all but 1 rifle are bedded at the back bridge.

Search "bedding Remington 700 scope mount" you'll get a ton of hits.

Got the scope back last week. Leopold said there was no defects, but they “zeroed” it out. I mounted it on the same rifle, with the same mount and was able to bore sight with minimal adjustments. Who knows what was wrong?

So Leupold returned the scope fixed in about 3 weeks. Good info.
