Ruger Mini 30 (1991) rear sight replacement - FOUND!

I recently purchased a Mini 30 (date code of 1991) with a broken rear flip-up sight. The older/deluxe Ruger 10/22 rear sights are similar (dovetail) that hold the rear aperture with 2-screws. Through my research and aid of other CalGuns members' comments/insight, I learned of compatibility of the two.

Although you can purchase the 2-screw replacement on several gun-related websites, I found eBay to be the cheapest for around $14. Moreover, I was able to acquire a used replacement sight through the kindness of another CalGuns member (Sig357).

You might try to determine first if the 10/22 & Mini-30 use the same part # for the sight you wish to replace. A call to Ruger CS should easily address that.

You might also check out NEGC to see what options for a ghost ring, or aperture sight that might be made for it.

Lastly, Midway runs the “free” shipping deal at least once a month, so don’t fret if you don’t put anything in your cart.

Edit: after looking closely at the picture in your posting, I believe the aperture portion of the sight is different. The dovetail base might be the same, and you may be able simply mix the parts to get what you need. I have a Ruger #1, a 77/44, and a few 10/22’s that all use the same sight, but my Mini-30 Tac uses a different rear sight entirely.

Thanks for your response and I learned the same thing. I have a take-off Ruger 10/22 rear sight and compared it with the Mini 30: it'the same. I even made sure the M30 aperture fits. But, mine is not the 2-screw model. I'm sure someone out in CalGuns land has a spare sight in their parts box, just gotta put out a WTB ad.

If you're going to run russian 7.62 x 39 expect some Failure to Fire from light primer strikes. I solved the problem with a heavier hammer spring. The also now make an "enhanced" firing pin for them that might be worth a try also.

https://www.firingpins.com/ruger-min...iring-pin-2470 Works for both the mini 14 and mini 30.

I know it is more expensive, but I would suggest seriously considering the Tech Sights rear sight instead of a stock replacement. I am very happy with mine.

I do have a spare stock Mini 30 sight, but mine is off a 58X series. I believe it is not compatible with your receiver. I will compare your pic to my sight later.

I have no insight if the 10/22 sight will work.

That would be going from bad to worse. Get some Tech-Sights.

I have contemplated the Tech-Sights ($72 cheapest), but being that I just got it, I don't want to invest too much into if I don't like it. I've got 3 other x39 platforms. I plan to try to find the 10/22 2-screw sight and use my existing aperture. I may slap on a 1-4x20 scope with the rings a buddy is giving me.

No, the 58X series is not compatible with the 189.

Thanks for the offer to help and input nonetheless Gents!

                yea they are the same

ruger 10/22 used to come with the lyman folding dovtail rear sight but ruger just figured they could make them cheaper and just copied it but they use a square instead of a triangle so "totally different design"

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am going to wait and see if I can acquire a 10/22 2-screw rear sight on CalGuns first, before paying for a new one. Surely someone has a take-off lying around; I did, but it too was broke in the same spot.

The cheapest I've found the 10/22 replacement site is for $13.51 shipped (no tax/free ship): https://www.nimrodswares.com/ruger-1...tory-2-screws/

                      The cheapest Tech-Sights (Mini200R) I found are $71.20 shipped (w/ 5% coupon code/free ship/no tax): http://opticscamp.com/tech-sights-ad...-mini200r.html

Drew is correct and that's not the way it's done here...WHY do you think deleting the post helps??

As he posted, others may have the same issue and a search will get them to the your original post here.

                          BAD form, imo.

You're absolutely right. I'm just accustomed to "for sale" and "want to buy" posts that I habitually close/delete the thread. Thank you for approaching the matter respectfully.

The above statement applies to you; minus the 'respectful' sentiment.

Lastly, I sold 90% of the items in my WAY out of line priced for sale posts, without taking a loss. Please keep your baseless comments to yourself.

I have a 189 series and never had light strike issues with any brand of ammo. Just passing it along. Very accurate with a cheap Tasco 4 power scope. The rear sight from Ruger was not very useful.
