    Swarovski Habicht PV 6-24x50 P L vs. TRG42 .338 Lapua

I would appreciate some informed opinions from those in the know. I recently purchased a TRG-42 in .338 Lapua. It came with a Swarovski Habicht PV 6-24x50 P L mounted on top. The rifle and scope are new, never fired. This is my first .338 so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. The rifle does have a Sako muzzle break on it. I will be using the rifle for punching paper up to 600 yards and the occasional 1000 yard match (if it shoots well). It may make it out to the hunting grounds but unsure at this time (not sure how practical that will be yet).

I know nothing about Swarovski scopes other than they are supposed to be pretty nice. I have a Nightforce on my .50 cal Windrunner (love it) but that is the extent of my experience with "nice glass". My concern is that the scope may not withstand the abuse of the .338 I want to hear what you all have to say before I take it out to break it in and expose this scope to this kind of abuse.
    Never return fire!

The scope should be fine. Swaros were top pick for .50BMG glass back in the 90s, not only because they had a more useful reticle (the famous "christmas tree") but were also very durable.

Still, I'm surprised you went with a .338 if you're not planning to shoot beyond 1000 yards. .308WIN would have been a more economical and practical choice. .338LM really starts to shine when you get into the 1400-1800 yard range where .300WM and many others just fall out of the sky.

C'mon guys. 1 response. As much as I hear about Swaro's I would think a few more would have opinions on the subject.

Brando: Thanks for the input. The .338 was not really planned it was another one of theose Calguns things (deal to good to pass up). I always wanted a TRG but it was just a bit too much. Then... well you know the rest.

I will push the gun to its limits eventually but need some trigger time to start that push. When I can shoot groups under 8" at a 1000 yards you can bet I will push it further. I have heard nothing but positive things about this rifle but at this point I am sure it shoots much better then I do. Thanks again for the input but I was sure hoping that more would chime in.
