Saiga .223 red dot optic sub $200

    Hi all
I've pretty much decided on going with the low cost Saiga .223 as an HD and range gun. I'd like to put a quad rail system on it and add a couple of promags to the mix, but I'm a little stuck on the optics options. I would like to put a red dot on the forward rail, but I want to keep it under $200. So far, the config looks like this:

    Saiga 16" .223 =$550
    UTG Quadrail system =$85
    2X 10 rd. Promag magazines = $$
    Red Dot = $$??

I have looked through the many posts on optics, but haven't found one which addresses preferred options on an AK variant using a weaver system, and on a budget. I would really appreciate a little input. Also, if there are those who really think that it would be better to use the side mount with a red option, I'm all ears...

    thank you

The Konus Pro Atomic is been a good red sight for me. It's a Aimpoint T-1 style sight. Midway USA has or had them on sale.

Here is a thread post on them:

      Sub $200 Red Dot?

How about the Bushnell Red Dot? You can regularly find it well under $200.

Hey Max, with the site mounted up that far can you still use the iron sites. Ideally, I'd like to be able to fall back on those of course. Or is it the case that you need to mount the RD over the receiver if you want to have iron site capability?

Don't mess with the rail for $285 get this.

You can't use the irons with the way I have it mounted. I don't plan to carry mine into battle so it's not a big deal. If I did need to use the irons I can remove the RD sight in about a minute. I carry a small 1/2" wrench along with an extra battery in the pistol grip.

You can mount the Konus Pro Atomic on a Ultimak rail and it will Co-Witness with the irons.

The Saiga .223 was going for $425, which I think is a pretty good deal (on sale at Bullseye until Sunday). I opted for the 7.62 version and got it for $500 which I also think is an ok deal.
