    Rangefinder/ spotting scope combo?

    Hi all,

New to the rangefinder/ spotting scope world.... searched on rangefinder spotting scope and didn't really come up with anything helpful.

I would like to get a rangefinder to use at the range while setting up the various targets. Maximum distance would be 200 yds or so.

I would also like to get a spotting scope but wondered if I could kill two birds with one stone.

I see that some rangefinders have magnification but I'm unsure of what type of magnification would be appropriate for my needs. I'd need something I could see where bullet were hitting the target at 100-200 yds or so.

    Any advice is appreciated.

Hehe...well, <$700 will rarely get you a decent rangefinder alone. Personally, I would suggest just getting an inexpensive spotting scope since you're just using it at the range at relatively short distances. Just go with value, not performance and spotting scopes like that can be had fairly inexpensive sub-$500. Then start saving for a rangefinder. The Swarovski is one of the most popular, but expect to spend close to $1000. A cheaper alternative can be found with Leupold, Newcon, etc - but you get what you pay for.

The best reasonably priced spotting/LRF combo I've seen is the Leica Geovid binos. Beyond that you're going to get into military grade gear that costs a lot of money.

Thanks, Brando. Had no idea I'd have to spend that much for a decent recreational rangefinder alone and was hoping the RF's magnification would be good enough to use as a spotting scope.

          Savings starting in 3...2...1..

Have you checked Bass Pro Shops & Cabelas?
This is what I bought from Cabelas and works good for hunting. You might be able to get a combo package deal from both stores.
