Weaver is now Bushnell?

I bought a couple Weaver Grand Slam scopes back in the early 2000s because they where made in Japan and optically they where on par with the Leupold VX3 and they where about 100 dollars less at the time.
I have enjoyed using them and they have been just as good as my Leupold VX3s aside for a tad less eye relief. I have them on a heavy varmint .223 and a .243 so lack of eye relief not an issue whatsoever on the light recoiling rifles. They are good scopes and where a great buy. I have used some Bushnell over the years and they where once a good value scope back in my dads day, but I would place Bushnell as one of my least favorite scope makers today. Kinda sad to see Weaver go that way. The Weaver website does not even show the K series or the Grand Slam anymore.

If you look at www.rcbs.com (click the three bars on the upper left), Bushneli, RCBS, Weaver, Primos, Butler Creek, Champion and Hoppe's are listed under "Shop Our Brands". The Weaver site still has the Classic Series, low end stuff from, I would assume, China.

I have fixed 4x32 Weaver Scout Scope made in Japan that is a joy use, but no more.

I have several Weaver 40/44 made in Philippines scopes,3-10, 3-9, and two 2-7s, they're probably made in same plant as Nikon. The weaver 40/44 2-7 BP/shotgun scopes are perfect for 10/22s also, because of that I don't get why they quit making it.

Damn! I have 3 Weaver scopes; 1-3x20mm, fixed 4x and a 3x9, all from the mid 90's[?]. All are "Japan" scopes and have excellent glass. The newer ones, I don't know. Glad I have 'em.

Sad to see this. Weaver's Japanese-made scopes are good stuff. But, "corporate profits!", so despite the fact that Red China is not our friend, corporate bosses run over there for that sweatshop slave labour. And that's a big reason why I stick with Leupold; even their "low-end" riflescopes are made in the Beaverton, OR plant, and they're good stuff, too.
