Is there any easy way to upgrade the sights on a model 59 to something more visible? Thinking about low light sights. Prefer not to use a gunsmith if possible. I trend towards DIY.
I know there is probably something that could somewhat easily be done about the rear; it's just a dovetail. Drive it out, drive something better in.
But, unless I am mistaken, the front sight is not removable, seems to be a part of the slide casting. Proper way to do it looks like to grind that off and mill in a dovetail. No way I am doing that myself.
However, one thing I would be comfortable doing would be to file a notch into the front sight ramp and fill that in with something that stands out more. Basically make it look like the orange plastic insert S&W has on their factory revolver fronts. I have confidence in my ability to do that, but does anyone have any leads on something more "glow in the dark-y" to fill the notch in with, rather than just some resin with orange die added?
