    AK red dot sights

Hello all, I recently bought an Romanian AK47, and it shoots great. I've since wanted to mount a red dot sight system onto it. I'm not too experienced with what to look for, any good suggestions? I've recently looked up Kobra sights and mounts which seem pretty nice, anyone know of mounting problems or sight problems with these? I've looked at a few other mounting systems and some complaints regarding stability with mounts on the reciever...

Kobras are very well thought of and can save big bucks compared to US made brands. Similarly there is a Russian equivalent of the Aimpoint called a PK 23, also a substantial savings.

          yellowfin-

I've heard Kobras are pretty hard to come across, do you know if that is still true?

I think yellowfin mentioned this as the pk23, seems like a fairly nice set up. The only problem with many of these sights is, obviously, I'd have to set up the side mount to the reciever. The only decent sight that i don't have to do that with that ive found so far is the LaRue irondot, but I can't seem to find many reviews of them. Anyone here tried those out or heard anything bad?

I love the side mounts, they are reliable and accurate, allow me to use iron sight and scope at the same time. Ever seen the Ruskie military using those fancy rear sight replacement optics? Don't want to start bashing those rear sight, gas tube or dust cover mount things. I have friends who use them, it may require some work to make it fit and stable, but they will do the job.
However this is what an AK suppose to look like.

You can fit the PK 23 in any regular scope rings or Aimpoint mount, it's the same 30mm body tube. The Kobra comes in standard Weaver mount, and I'm very tempted to put one on my AR. Irondots are supposed to be quite good but very hard to come by if not impossible due to demand.

This is the BEST set-up if you're looking for ruggedness and functionality. Hands down, nothing else comes close.

The LaRue AK set-up is great, but they're not sturdy enough for a hard-use gun. For range and fun, they're awesome.

Wow these sights are more expensive than the AK itself. I don't think i need one.

well not the LaRue with the Burris.....at least for how much i paid for my AK, which was $500, the Burris LaRue being $250, but it seems apparent that they are extremely hard to find also.
