Reticle styles?

How about a sticky thread on explaining all the different types of reticles themselves & why you might want it over another? So many nice scopes come with different option reticles, why would you favor 1 over another?

Red/Green/Amber Triangles, Red/Green/Amber Dots, Duplex, German #4 crosshair, Mil-dot, circle, standard crosshair, mark 4 tactical, and the list goes on....

even though it's a cheap scope I like my xdoptic Y recticle manly for the information it provides . had it for 2 years on a 30-06 and still holding zero.
