    Advice for new spotting scope

I'm preparing to purchase a new spotting scope for highpower competition. Right now my primary choices are the Kowa 82sv (replacement for the 821), and the more compact Kowa 771. In either case I would purchase the fixed power LER eyepiece.

Do any of you have either of these scopes to offer a recommendation of one over the other? Perhaps there is another make/model that I should be steering toward. I've read that the Konus scopes are excellent and a great buy for much less money.

    Thanks!

I use an 821 and find it works fine for seeing spotters and reading the mirage. It is a big scope though, and if I were doing it over, I would probably go with the new 771. I have seen quite a few of the Konus scopes on the line, and haven't heard anything negative about them, but Kowa remains the gold standard among most highpower and long range competitors.
