    Henry Big Boy Mount

    Hi Fellas,

Does anyone know if there's a scope base that fits a new model Big Boy Steel, other than the factory unit? I got a Henry base but it's too tall by a lot. I'm thinking Weaver must have something that would work. I'm trying not to do too much fabrication if I can avoid it, and I really don't want to use a cheek riser if I can help it. Thanks, PAX

I think skinner has one? I know they have a peep sight that mounts on receiver with scope base cut in
    War is mostly waiting.

What kind of sight are you trying to put on it?

For example, i used Burris FastFire mounts designed for the Marlin 336 to put micro red dots on a couple Henry rifles and they sit nice and low. If you look for mounts designed for the 336 you can always e-mail Henry and ask them to confirm if it would work. That’s what I did.

I installed a Vortex 1X4 and it's way too high. Did you need to modify the Marlin base, or was it a straight fit? I have a 30AS to fiddle with. PAX

No mods at all, but for a small red dot it only used two of the closely spaced mounting holes. On my Big Boy that put it in back closer to the hammer. On the .30-30 that put it towards the front of the receiver (I left the rear aperture sight in place.)

The Vortex 1-4 (PST?) has a pretty chunky eyepiece, so you may have challenges getting it low enough for your liking while maintaining clearance to the hammer.

Edited to add picture of mount on a Big Boy:

Vortex Crossfire II. There's about 5/8" from the magnification adjusting nob to the hammer spur, which is about how much it's too high it is. Now that I'm messing with it, I see that it's a bit of a challenge to get this 1X4 dialed in at "1". Skinners didn't seem to have just a mount without an aperture, or I couldn't locate the page for them. I took it back off so it's serviceable.

Today was scopage day. My Ruger 7.62X39 bolt got out of jail yesterday, and I picked up a 2X7 Vortex for that rig. It turned out pretty sweet, snaps right up. Two Pro Mag 10s should show up tomorrow.

I swapped out the scope on my .22-250 also, a New England bull barrel single. Changed out a 6X18X40 for a 5X20X50. Put the laser through both. Thanks again. PAX

Guys from other forums and Henry themselves directed me to EGW & Ranger. Both have low options. I ordered 2, one for my Marlin AS too. PAX
