Found out what's going on with Redfield - spoke w/ Leupold a week or so ago

I really like Redfield Revolution riflescopes. They've always represented a terrific value for a quality optic. When Leupold bought Redfield, they did a fine job of restoring Redfield's good name.

So, when I called Leupold about another matter, I asked the tech support guy what was going on with Redfield, and here's what he said.

Redfield has not been "discontinued". Production has been put on "pause" for the moment,
and at some point in the future, production may start up again. However, it's not planned in the immediate future, meaning about the next year.

Now, I'm going to speculate a little. I also notice that the more popular VX-Freedoms are hard to come by at present. The VX-Freedoms appear to use the same turrets, at least, as the Revolutions do, and maybe even the same tubes. I'm guessing that the relative unavailability is because of limited manpower due to COVID-19-related restrictions on the part of either the State of Oregon or the City of Beaverton. Any remaining production capacity is probably allocated to VX-Freedom production since it's the new line. Once those restrictions go bye-bye, the production lines probably will ramp back up and we'll see more VX-Freedoms and Revolutions rolling out.

I have also noticed that the VX-Freedom AR scopes--the entire line--is now showing "No Longer For Sale". Now, that's concerning, as that generally has meant that the line has been discontinued, and the VX-Freedom AR line is the designated replacement for the also-discontinued Mark AR line. Will have to find out more.

I wish they would bring back the vx2 and keep it a no frills true real hunters scope, only offered in 2x7 or 3x9 with objectives at 32 and 40 mm, standard or heavy duplex, slim, light weight without those large knobby turrets you see on all of the taticool crap today. Or keep the Redfield line alive marketed as a true no non sense hunters scope(but loose the big red painted R on bell housing that looks cheap). Only real hunters (not long range fan boys) hunters that want fair chase close the distance hunts and challenge your hunting and true field shooting skills will know the scope I am describing. I would also like them to offer a really well priced fixed power 4 and 6 at a wallet friendly price that would attract new hunters to the scope because of price but they will learn the practicality and effective use of a fixed scope.

^^ I've actually written Leupold a letter to that effect regarding the Redfield line. Since Leupold has at last discontinued the Rifleman (really the Vari-X II in an updated tube), the Redfield Revolution line is perfectly poised to fill in this market segment. Consider that its VX-1 technology is good enough to hit game at 800 yards if you're doing your part, so 400 yards or less (actual sane hunting distances) is a perfect application for the Revolution series.

The nice thing about this is that, now that VX-2 technology is Leupold's "low end", the VX-1 technology is probably now less expensive to produce. That means that the Revolution line could go back to close to its original prices when first introduced in 2010, without cannibalizing the Leupold VX-Freedom line. And Leupold would pick up a lot of business from the "import' market such as the Red-China-made Vortex Crossfire line.

I hope that they seriously consider doing this.

I have a Redfield Revolution on my .270 and have been very happy with it. It's a well built scope at a great value. I had no idea that they had stopped production and glad they will resume.
