    Dang you, Bushnell

So the screw to hold on the turrets on my 10 power elite tactical target scope snapped a few years ago. I had emailed Bushnell to use the ‘lifetime warranty’ but they wanted to charge me for parts.

Over the Christmas PTO break, I decided to mount it on a rifle and needed to fix it. It’s a 3/32” Allen key but the thread is metric M4.5x.5mm, thanks guys, first time I’ve seen this crap...I ended up making a replacement on on my CNC mill.

Chucked .5” OD half hard 360 brass in the spindle, clamped cutter in the vice and turned the ODs. Flipped and thread milled the M4.5x.5mm thread. Turned sideways and clamped, used a Dremel cut off to make a slot for a coin to tighten. Found an O ring to use under the screw head.

Anyways, cool starry bra..but dang you, Bushnell. I attached pic of the screw installed, not pretty but should work fine.

My experience with Bushnell was the complete opposite of yours.

Some years ago, I bought a used 6500 elite 2.5 x 16 from a guy at a gun show. While examining the scope, I found that the optics were remarkably clear and everything appeared to be in good order. It even had the sunshade attached. I offered the fellow a price and he didn't even counteroffer. In fact, he couldn't sell it to me fast enough. It was, I thought, a slightly odd transaction.

I found out why he was so anxious to get rid of that scope once I got home.

Remember that sunshade? It was held fast with Loctite. When I finally figured out how to remove it, I saw that the entire circumference of the objective lens had chips broken out of it. It was as if someone tried to tighten the nut holding the objective lens in place and just torqued it so much that the glass simply shattered. Basically, that sunshade was glued in place so that a prospective buyer would not see the damage.

Talk about feeling foolish. It never even occurred to me to take off the sunshade while examining that scope before I bought it. That's why the seller was so quick to agree to my offer.

So I wrote a letter and sent it back to Bushnell. In my letter I completely absolved them of any fault and said that I would appreciate it if they could fix the scope and to please bill me for whatever costs were incurred. I took full responsibility for the damage.

A few weeks later a package arrived on my doorstep. In it resided not my repaired scope, but a brand new replacement. Remember, they had nothing to do with the damage this scope had suffered and had every right to charge me for the repair of the scope I sent in.

                  The charge? Zero. Nothing.

Since that show of generosity I have bought a fair number of Bushnell scopes.

I might add, however, that I learned a valuable lesson about some gun show vendors and the true meaning of the term caveat emptor.

I edited your post and title: the word filter exists for a reason and your account depends on your not trying to circumvent it. If you see others doing the same report it and I’ll deal with them.

Thats weird. I dropped a gun with a FF3 off my reloading bench, sent an email 5 minutes after it happened. Had a new one by the following wednesday.

The OP just reinforced why I won't buy Bushnell.

Bushnell makes their scopes in Red China, and that includes the new series. No, thanks. If I'm going to go foreign made, it'll be Japan or the Philippines, because 1.) they're not an adversary to the United States, and 2.) they actually make good scopes. But my preference is made in USA, of course.
