Earlier today I had a set of Dawson Precision sights put on my CZ Rami 9mm. The sights are blacked out in the read and fiber optic in the front. I went to the range a couple of hours after getting the sights installed and after shooting for a bit, the front sight came loose. It is sliding freely left and right within the front sight cut. I thought the sight would be securely pressed into the sight cut, or secured by a screw, but it looks to me like it was glued in place only. I guess I should have let the glue dry overnight?

In most cases you melt fiber optic in place. You cut a piece of fiber optic rod to the proper length (longer than the sight to accommodate the melting). Pull the rod out and quickly melt one side with a lighter till it looks like a mushroom head. Let it cool and then insert it into the sight, and then melt the exposed cut until it also expands.
Some sights come with side cuts in the rod which lock into place when you press it into the sights.
Dawson uses .04" rod except for the sights they supply to STI. Those are .06". You can buy the fiber optic rod from Dawson or many other outfits. I usually buy my rods at Fiber Optic Products.
Always keep some fiber rod and a lighter in your range bag just in case.Last edited by k1dude; 11-21-2020, 9:54 PM."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

It's not a problem with the fiber optic rod. The entire front sight post/sight is sliding left and right.Comment

Makes me wonder if the person who installed it took a little too much material off when fitting. The front sight should be secure in the dove tail without any "glue" or additional compounds. BUT you should let any glue/compound dry and fully cure. Depends on what they use but I think the general rule of thumb is like 24hrs.Earlier today I had a set of Dawson Precision sights put on my CZ Rami 9mm. Oops. Comprehension fail.
jdewolf is right. It sounds like whomever tried to "fit" the sight into the dovetail removed too much material from the sight. Glue is never used. You might have to buy a new front sight."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

Try using red loctite if there is no screw available. Although most front sights I have installed have had a screw mechanism in combination with the loctite. Not too familiar with CZ's to be honest.Comment

I had a coworker with the same sights installed on his Rami. I think the dovetail cuts are different on the Rami. His package said they fit CZ but I measured them and they weren’t correct. Crappy “Gunsmiths” for some reason use loctite as if that will resolve fitment issues.
Hopefully you have the package to verify fitment. Let me know if you need help. Make sure the sight is correct for your gun. It shouldn't depend solely on Loctite to hold it in. Either the smith took too much off, or it's not he wrong site.
FYI, when pressing new sights in place, coating both the slide and the sight with molybdenum disulfide or tungsten disulfide powder will keep the same tight fit but allow the parts to go together much easier.Last edited by sonofeugene; 11-26-2020, 5:29 PM.Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them. - Rabindranath Tagore

On the CZ Custom website and on the invoice these sights are specifically listed as being for the Rami. Thanks for the information guys. I'll take the gun back to the gunsmith when they reopen after the holiday.Comment

Those RAMI front sights are staked in at the factory. You can use red loctite but I would stake them on the forward edge. They have an odd cross slot instead of a regular dovetail.Comment
