Affordable Night Vision for poor people?

hey guys, so i am sorry i cannot give any feedback because i don't have it yet, but i ordered a Sightmark Wraith.
i think this is pretty similar to the ATN that people like already.

i don't hunt hogs or yotes (or anything) so really it is just a gadget, but since i wanted to have a "do anything" rifle, this will add to that, even if it isn't operator level gear, lol.

unfortunately, this means i might be able to justify a steiner dbal.
then i would really be tactical af.

btw, i bought from these guys, a family run business that does great support for the shooting community.
they have all kinds of sights and gear and can answer questions over the phone if you are shopping for a spotting scope and not sure which one to get. these guys have actually looked through them.

lol, i spend a lot of time on snipershide.com, and there are a lot of operators on that sight that have all that stuff, and multiples of them.
$20k hanging from their helmets or $10k clip ons.

i am considered one of "the poors" on that forum.

GenII+ that I gave $900 for 12 years ago, is now $1,500. You DON'T want anything cheaper than that, and that's as CHEAP as it gets.

I have very little patience, typically, for folks who trash budget-friendly gear. Night vision is the exception if you're talking about shooting.

Watching turtles migrate at the beach? Budget night vision.

Identifying friend vs. foe, weapon vs. no weapon, in a situation where lives are counting on your equipment, where the wrong call will see you being put behind bars? That's why you lay down stupid amounts of money.

As an aside, I was shocked at how far night vision has come. WP is clearly here for the civilian market, but the rarified .mil/.gov-only stuff is on the scene, and it's full-color night vision. Truly futuristic.

Very cool. Please give us a test report once you've got a chance to try it out.

I know what I'm about to say is Not night vision but if you've ever had a night time job where you had to be out in a dark area, without street lights or other light pollution, for extended periods of many nights it is amazing how much the human eye can eventually adjust to all but the very darkest of nights.

The big disadvantage of course is it takes a while for your eyes to adapt and also any light pollution, like your own flashlight for example, resets any of your eyeballs automatic/ natural night vision.

I only know about this because I've had this fortunate learning experience for several years in my life.

(It also made me a believer in headlamps over flashlights, on those completely moonless or cloudy / starless nights but that's another story.)

Trust but verify what I'm saying by going out and spending over four hours, in a total dark area, and see how your eyes adjust to just using natural star light or moonlight.

You need a flip-cap IR filter for your flashlight!

Now I WONDER who might have one of those for sale in the marketplace...

Digital night vision is the future of affordable NV. It works well and you can also use it during the day. It's a piece of cake to sight in and it usually offers all sorts of other perks like a video/still camera, BDC, rangefinder, etc... The tech is going to improve greatly in the next few years as the prices drop.

The only current drawback is finding one that you can attach to a helmet.

Traditional analog NV with intensifier tubes is costly, has bloom problems on all but the priciest versions, and can be destroyed by bright light. The green versions also have shadow problems. White phosphor is great, but reach deep into your pockets. However, many analog units can be attached to a helmet.

The problem with most of the digital NV scopes is they have a very limited field of view and typically come with too much magnification. I wish they'd come with something like a 1-4x instead of the typical 3x/4x to 14x/16x. You can't see that far at night through the scopes, so the magnification levels are too high.

                            Give us a review OP.
