You're supposed to maintain them?
Seriously though, after zeroing, the only thing I periodically check is that none of the mounting screws backed out and if the battery needs changing.Comment

Thanks guys. It came with a brownells mount. I know very little about mounts, I mean the options would be quick release and placement of hold. Maybe a pic rail on top. Material used. So I hope this mount works well. I like the idea of getting something to cover the glass, I have kept my bikini covers on my Romeo 5 but they are a bit annoying. Any suggestions on flip up caps? Also, one of the reasons I went with Vortex was their warranty. Eye relief can be set for LOP? I didn’t know this, I’ll be sure to read up on it some more.Last edited by Mr. Blue; 10-01-2020, 10:04 PM.Comment

Vortex sells flip caps for that model so drop them a note.Comment

To keep the glass dust free, maybe get a "lens pen" and keep it in your shooting bag. I own a couple. They are nice for dusting off the lenses of rifle and spotting scopes. It's basically like using an artist's paint brush to dust off the lenses. Clothes do it too, but with a brush you aren't applying pressure against the lens surface near as much.
FYI, they look like this:
Lots of brands out there. They're all inexpensive.Comment

This is brilliant, thanks for this.

I expect that your scope also came with its own lens cloth. Each cleaner has a purpose. The pen is awesome for knocking off the inevitable accumulation of dust quickly. But for fingerprints and droplets of oils that will probably get on their at some point, you might want to grab your cloth. If fact, if any gun oils get on your lens, the brush is actually counterproductive, as you can probably imagine. Oils will just smear. Plus, oils will ruin the brush.
The lens pen has a kind of cleaning head on the other end. A concave felt dealie. I believe it's treated with some kind of solvent. I have not used that end on any of my scopes though.

I add flip caps to all mine if they didn't come with them and replace the crappy ones if I can find better fitting ones... other than that, yeah... sight them in and check zero once in a while and also check the mounts and LOCTITE. I've heard people say not to LOCTITE before and I personally cannot understand this. Everything needs LOCTITE AFAIK. I've seen "tight" torqued mounts shoot loose in one range trip many times on other people's rifles.Comment

Yeah I just checked mine and it has cheap vortex ones that fit good with rubber fitting rings - neither end wants to pull off easily. Springs and hinges look like they could break anytime. Defenders are indestructible compared to these.
I have some kind of aluminum throw lever on mine.Comment
