I am hoping to find a solution to a scope elevation question. I have a picatinny rail on my savage 308. My scope won't elevate high enough i maxed it out to no avail. I am thinking about buying higher or lower rings currently they are probably 1" base hieght. I believe both rings are identical no forward and rear. I believe this is a non-scope issue as this scope is new i recently returned the old one due to the same issue (it worked fine before with the same set-up. Any ideas.

Assuming you are correct about the scope being fine, get a sloped base or some Burris Zee Signature rings which have inserts that allow you to raise or lower your line of sight without stressing the scope structurally.NRA Benefactor Life Member

Your scope won't elevate high enough to do what? Zero? At what yardage?
I don't mean to be insulting, but, are you turning the knob the right direction?
What scope?
Lastly, ring height won't make much difference in zeroing the scope unless their extremely high.Rob Thomas - Match Director NCPPRC Tactical Long Range Match

Ditto on the Question form Pthfndr.
Also what is the MOA on the base?
Were you or have you got a 0?
Some scopes that have a lot of power (20x and UP) do not have a lot of elevation especially if they are a 1" tube. If you are not able to get a 100yds 0 then mostly likely it is do to the MOA of the Base and the amount of elevation in the scope.

Thanks for the response guys: Here is what i was told from Nikon this a.m. and partially thought about last night...I initially tried to zero the scope at a lower magnification which is not the proper way to sight it in according to Nikon. You must sight it in at full magnification. This makes sense and I will get to the range in the coming days to confirm.Comment

Good gosh, what they're saying is that your POI shifts with magnification? I wouldn't admit that about my scope if I was making them.
Your scope simply lacks enough reticle travel for your needs. If you can't get a 100 yard zero then something is seriously wrong.

If you're around the LA area I can help you out at the range I work. Something is not sounding right at all.I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.
As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.Comment

According to nikon the BDC scopes require you initially zero in at full magnification...I am in San diego and will be shooting monday and or wednesday next week to get this taken care of. Appreciate the ideas...I have never had a problem getting a scope sighted in until now. I will let you know if that simple fix worked or i am sending this back to Nikon.Comment
