Do yourself a favor and increase your budget. I think the best value in spotting scopes comes from Vortex.
But you can spend $5000 on a spotting scope and it you aren't using Shoot-n-c's and the mirage is bad, you aren't gonna see your holes at 300y.
Objective size has more to do with how bright your target appears in dusk/dawn/overcast conditions. During a bright summer day it doesn't matter too much.

Yeah the vortex Nomad would fit the bill pretty well for you. That was a great little spotting scope, nice and clear. Otherwise I would go with a Kowa usedComment

i did buy a cheaper spotter a while back and it might work fine for up to 300 yards (imho).

FWIW, I got a $100 Barska 20-60x60mm spotter a few years ago, before I knew any better, and for some purposes, and it's not entirely useless.
It's fine for spotting 22-cal holes on Shoot-n-Sees at 100 yards, and on good days (cold and bright, no mirage) at 200 yards.
On plain paper, it can spot 22 and 30-cal holes on paper at 100 yards, but not reliably beyond that.
On good days, I can just make out 30-cal holes on Shoot-n-Sees at 300 yards, but that's really the limit.
If you have the cash, by all means get something better. But $100 will still get you in the game... depending on what game you're talking about!Comment

I just picked up an Athlon Talos for $124, 20-60x80. Really impressed for $120 but it is pretty big and has a more narrow FOV than others.

I forgot to tell you, at costco. Com you can order the same Athlon Talos spotting scope with the exception that if anything ever breaks on it, you return it to Costco. Costco has the best warranty in the business and this is a phenomenal deal
Then if you want to up your game, go to the Athlon Ares
the second one is $400, but it is a much better scope I'll be at a little bit lower power compared to what the other one isComment

Dammit guys I do this every time. I went on here to look up a price for somebody else and ended up picking up one of those Athlon Talos spotting scopes for a hundred twenty five bucks at Costco. Trying to talk someone else into it I accidentally talk myself into it.... Calguns strikes againComment

If you're looking for a good head to mount it on, get yourself a used Manfrotto 410 geared head. A geared head makes it super easy to adjust each plane of movement individually and precisely. I also made a riser for it as well as a heavy base out of acetal with adjustable feet.

btw, beware cheap tripods that move them you tighten them (vesus a nice fluid head or geared head). it is really frustrating trying to point at something 600+ yards away when your tripod head sucks and shifts the poa when you try to lock it.Comment

Why not. Costco pays employees on average over $21.00 an hour. They have full benefits for their family on part time hours, are almost ALWAYS top 3 retailers to work for on every list for years, offer stocks, 401k and more. Wow, I didn't know they had those scopes at Costco. I was checking those out ( I don't have membership anyways), vortex, and kowa.. I was looking for a small body. Anyways, I went with an Opticron in the end.
I concur with Tonyx, if you increase your budget, you can get something decent.Comment
