4x vs 6x red dot magnifier on AK

What do people think of 4x vs 6x red dot magnifiers? My vision is pretty crappy, so I'm thinking 6x would be better because it would help more. Are the disadvantages of 6x (like shorter eye relief, smaller field of vision) significant?

What optic are you going to magnify?

I’m not a fan of the aim point 3x magnifier.

I’d stick with a red dot for an AK

If you really need magnification I would go to a 1x4 or a 2x6 scope
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

My red dot is a Leupold Deltapoint Pro 2.5 MOA. I can make some hits at 125 yards with just the red dot, but I'd like to hit more consistently, and I'd like to try shooting at 200 yards. With red dot 3 inches over bore and zero'd at 50 yards, bullet drop is only 2 inches at 200 yards, according to the online calculator I was using.

Why do you need any magnification at all?! Red dot is plenty. Are you really shooting for accuracy with an AK? If you want accuracy, get a bolt gun.

I'm not exactly shooting for bullseye accuracy. I want to see if I can hit a chest-sized steel plate at 200 yards, but I can barely see the plate. My understanding is that the effective range of an AK 47 is supposed to be 300 to 400 yards. But I'm 49 years old and my vision is not the best. I'd appreciate some feedback on the original question, if anyone has some insight. Thanks.

An AK by design(intermediate battle rifle) and cartridge ballistics is best suited without magnification, however to answer your question, 4 power should be adequate to see your "chest sized" targets out to 200-300 yards. 6 power even easier but your field of view turns that battle rifle into purely a range toy.

Primary Arms makes a 1-6 ACSS scope for 7.62x39. I'm able to hit man sized targets out to 400 yards using BDC. It's one of the cheapest scopes I have, but it works for the AK.

If you're looking for something lighter/smaller, I think they make a 3x scope as well.

I also use the PA 1-6x. The bdc isn’t a perfect match but it’s close enough.

Hi-Lux doesn’t believe a true military grade tactical scope should be prohibitively expensive. So using the real world experience of Special Operations combat
