    Same ol question "budget optics"

I have a red dot currently for my carbine build but have a JP-15 upper flat top and want to mount some optics for it. This will all be under 200 yard shooting for the most part and probably 95 percent at a range or river bar. I'm looking around the 200 dollar mark and need some recommendations. I have used eotech's, aimpoints, bushnell red dots and a couple of low power scopes for .22's but thats about it. What are your best recommendations about scopes for this use. Fixed power, or low variable power. The scopes that I've been mulling over have been the millett dms-1, bushnell 3200 elite 10x40 w/target turrets, mueller apv, leatherwood scopes, Sightmark triple duty, nikko stirling nighteater, osprey tactical scopes, and a few others I can't think of. I want a reasonably versatile optic which makes me think that the bushnell is kind of out of the picture. I like the millett but it is really hard to see even the 100 yard targets with much accuracy. I'm looking to make small groups and tag the gong out at a couple of hundred yards at our local range, so tell me what ya think.

    Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40

Have you looked into these yet?

You can find 'em new for around $180...used for $150.

Surprisingly clear glass for the price, plus they come with the Burris Lifetime warranty.

Yeah, I did check them out a little bit and was really hoping for target turrrets to make it easy on myself losing caps and making easier adjustments than using a quarter or screwdriver. I don't "need" the target knobs though so it may be an option. They get great reviews.

Agreed, the lack of target turrets is what's keeping me from owning one.

Burris does make a Tactical version (with target turrets) of their Fullfield scopes for about $100 more.

Natchez is having a sale on the OD version of the Burris TAC30 (30mm version with target turrets) for $229...not bad.

would the 4-12x40 with target turrets work well on an AR and what type of mount would it need for proper eye relief?

Sure, it would work quite well. You would need high rings or a high ring mount to work on a flat-top. It has a fine reticle and the AO gets it down for close-in shots.
