    Wide reference

Does anyone know of a optic mount height reference capable of calculating a 42 - 44 mm objective with a 34 mm tube. I'm trying to find the best quick detach rings with the closest optic to bore height.

Smarter people probably have a different way, but there are 2 ways I use to find the minimal ring clearance.

If you know the distance from the mount base to the ring split, take 1/2 of the bell dia. For a 44mm lens, its probably close to 50mm, but measure your scope to be sure. For for this example, say it's 25mm.

If you know the distance from the mount base to the bottom of the ring, take 1/2 of the bell dia (25mm) - 1/2 the tube dia (16mm) = the minimal ring height (9mm).

You should add some more height so your scope bell doesn't ground out on the mount or barrel. You can also play with the #s if you have a tapered barrel.

    Hope this helps

Thanks Kenl! Sad but true my approach has been to have multiple Leupold mounts and use the one that is closest (well most of the time). But if mounts differ I can get even closer to my goal which is to be as close to the barrel as possible, and then I've done a better job.
