    Ruger Mini Optics

I've got a couple of new .223 Mini's and I'd like to put on a scope or red-dot. I've got "over fifty" eyes, will limit shots to sub 150m, want the optic to be as small as practical, and really want to limit cost to under $400. Application is for self-defense and general utility,

My list of likely models include - Burris Fullfield and Timberline 2x7's, Leupold FX 2.5x and 4x, VXII 1-4x and 2-7x, Mark AR 1.5-4x, Weaver V3 1-3x, and the Aimpoint 9000sc.

Any comments on these optics or recommendations for others of this type will be welcome.

My eyes are almost 50 (49) and I find a red dot-o-death just the ticket for hitting clays out to 100 yards with. I have lost my near sight so I've mounted the red dot out on top of the gas block. I picked the mount up from Midway USA years ago and it works very well. That's my FakePoint mounted on it.

I use to post an old picture of this rifle and every time I did I'd get warnings about the bird-cage flash suppressor. Here's a close up of it's current configuration.

I like the looks of that gas block mount. Have you had any problems with the optics due to heat from the gas block?

For the OP, if you've got ring mounts on your Minis, it opens up quite a lot of possibilities. Several companies make rail attachments that fit the Ruger ring mount cuts, there are the Amega and Ultimak scout rails, and the gas block rail on Paul's rifle.

If you're going to use magnified optics, I like the receiver rail attachment, since it doesn't limit you to scout scopes. For red dots or holosights, any of those will work, depending on how far forward you like your sight.

I'm a big fan of the Eotech on the Mini for a non-magnified sight, but almost any good red dot/holosight would do.

I have a DMS-1 Millet, great scope for the money.
AR15 forums had 60 some pages about it. Circle dot with magnification.
It is on my house gun. I live in the country. Love the illumination in low light. I also ran the Simmons Diamond Pro 1.5-5 on my 3 gun rifle for 4 years. Great scope for the money. They have an illuminated recticle for it also. I do have the Amega Rail one of my MINI's. Use it for
a JP Tactical Irons and a flashlight. A good option for the Mini. I also bought the Weglan rail mount but never got around to putting it on.
