    m1a loaded + sadlek alum + leupold mark 2 t2 4-12x40mm obj

What does calguns think of my setup...or tentative setup

    M1a loaded
    Sadlak aluminum scope mount
    and last but not least

    Leupold Mark 2 T2 Scope 4-12x mag 40mm objective.

Purpose: Mainly plinking at 25 yrds because that range is close, but with this new setup I hope to get to 100-250 yds once a month.

Also want the option to be able to hunt with it. NO experience in this area but if a friend wants to take me I want to be ready.

I might also use it with the AR-15 setup.

oh what other scopes might be comprable? =D

Unless you have a vision impairment, I question the need to use a scope for 25 yards, unless it were on a handgun. Even with old, near-sighted eyes, 25 yards is iron sight territory.

If it were a 1-4X scope, then it'd be useful in close-range use.

Not familiar with your chosen scope, but that should be a pretty decent hunting optic for the 100-250 yards you anticipate, as well as range use/plinking at those distances.

FWIW, The sadlak mount allows use of iron sights via a U-shaped channel but it's not something that I like to use as a primary as it interferes with normal iron sight usage. It works in a pinch but the channel when mounted on my LRB does not line up perfectly and so it would prevent precision shooting. Unfortunately, the mount is not quickly removable.

Similarly, I'm not fond of your scope choice. It has a nice matte finish and different reticles but offers not much over a standard vx-II unless the name Mark 2 adds value for you. It would be annoying to use that scope at 25 yards if that was your intention.

      What I did:
LRB bush rifle in birch stock
then, fiberglass stock to save weight
then, SA scout mount and eotech 552 and optic was way too high
then, sadlak airborne mount and IOR 2-12x32 and way too short eye relief
then, leupold vxIII 4-12x40mm which now sits on a ruger 10/22 because I feel that placing a magnified scope on an M1A makes it too heavy.

What I'd do if I knew what I know now, meeting most of your goals (and remaining reasonably priced):
      M1A scout in fiberglass stock
then practice as much as you can afford with iron sights only.
Once you become proficient, you may find that the scope is unnecessary, too heavy, etc. I personally think the best inexpensive optics system for 25-250 yards for that rifle is an aimpoint H1 with aimpoint quick release mount mounted on the scout mount.

My thoughts are that the M1A is a fantastic rifle but it is heavy to lug around for hunting. If you're gonna shoot at 25 yards much with a 308, it might become boring quickly unless you develop a measureable goal. I'd suggest starting off with iron sights and going to this site and following through:
