My vision is not what it once was and most days I need the assistance of my glasses. Is there a list of what types of scopes (FFP, SFP, etc) work best for which types of vision issues (near-sighted, astigmatism, etc)?

You mean like an Excel sheet for scopes? It's the same file, but different tab as the one on guns of the world. lol.
Instead of asking for a unicorn, why don't you tell us what exactly your situation is, what you plan to mount it on, your intended use, distance you'll likely shoot at, etc, and then ask for suggestions.---------------------

i have found that the distance portion of my progressive lenses seems to work better than using the central or lower portion (reading) of my glasses when looking through rifle scopes....if that helpsComment

When it comes to vision correction and shooting, whether IDPA/IPSC, F-class, NRA Highpower, etc, it is better to get a single-vision set of glasses configured for that discipline.Comment

A scope will not be the same as a red dot or reflex sight. The latter to you'll just have to try it out. With scopes, the better quality ones will have a diopter adjustment which will allow you to adjust it to match your vision whether you shoot with your prescription lenses or non-RX lenses (the focal plane, ie FFP, SFP is irrelevant).NRA Benefactor Life Member

Ask your ophthalmologist. I had the same issue and Dr. suggested bring a few guns to our next appointment. He did some measurements from front sights to my eye and prescribed accordingly. It made a big difference.
Not sure if that's possible in California. My eye guy was an Idaho state small bore silhouette champion here for a few years.Last edited by -hanko; 03-24-2020, 7:47 AM.True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Having an eye doctor that understands that we don't "look" through the center of glasses when using scopes or metallic sights is more important to setting the prescription correct than eye to sight distance. He gets this.
My eye doctor understands now since I gave him a visual by using a broom shouldered like I was shooting offhand. He immediately saw where my vision lined up near the nose bridge.

This has all been great info. Thank you all. I am thinking maybe the acss reticle may be best for my needs. I’d like more distance thank a prism provides. the comment about potential issue w ffp is a little concerning. I was trying out a crossfire the other day and part of the crosshairs appeared wavy. Almost a double vision blur. I am thinking I can use the Acss reticle more effectively. however may have issues with the holdouts and tree. Regardless the answers here have given me some ideas to explore. Much appreciated for the advice.Comment

Like others said talk to your optometrist. Mine gave me a prescription for a pair that lets me see the front sight and works real well from 25 to 100 yards. Has bifocals for seeing the markings on the scope. Don't feel right in the house though.Imagine the banning of Assault Articles, High Capacity Editorials, and the existance of Off List PeriodicalsComment
