    Torque Screwdriver

Any recommendations on how to test the setting on a torque screwdriver without having to purchase an expensive calibration machine? It is currently set for 4 lbs but I want to increase to 15 lbs to mount a scope. The specs say it can go to a max of 15 lbs. Can i do it at home or is there someone or a type of store or shop that i should contact?

Test it with another known good torque driver. Hook one to the other, crank up the torque to a certain level, the look at what the other one says.

You have to take it at face value.
You'd either have to buy a torque wrench certified or have it certified.
Me, I'd just use common sense and not crank down too hard.

        Try this?
        Hold the screwdriver in vice.
Install bit say 1/4" than put 3/8 drive 1/4" socket on it.
Use 3/8 drive breaker bar and do the video thing.

Think the go to Harbor Freight has super cheap 1/4" torque wrench for $10
20 to 200 in. lbs. so 1.667 to 16.667 ft lbs

The German one I use is..Goodanfookintight

Also my wrist will click at 14 ft. lbs. when using a screwdriver

I am assuming since OP said screwdriver, and scope, he is measuring in inch pounds not foot pounds. Testing the difference between 4 inch pounds and 15 inch pounds is not so easy.

              Did not catch it.
I would not even worry about 4 to 15 in. lb.
Feels like extra snug to me.

1 lb. at the 15 inch mark will work.
Use small breaker bar and mark 15 inch from center of socket.
Pull scale till you hit 1 lb.

Give it a test at current setting using 4 inch mark and see if it clicks at 1 lb.

I use the Goodentight brand. Very inexpensive and it has held all my screws to date so far. It’s a scope for good sake, it’s not a fan motor or lug nuts

I got one of those. Unfortunately it resulted in some snapped bolts on my car.

The wheeler one is accurate enough for a scope. It compares quite well to Fixit sticks and borka.

Yep, me too, the Husky brand 1/4” drive INCH POUND torque wrench, works great, but who torques ring cap screws? I just use a Torx or Allen driver, I like the rubberized Craftsman ones, and do the cap screws by feel noting to get the clearance on each side of the cap equal. If you align the rings using alignment gauges and lap the lower half’s you don’t need to tighten the cap screws too tight, maybe 15 inch pounds and trying to get a torque wrench to click and gauge 15 inch pounds isn’t always an easy given, most torque wrench scales start at 25...

EDIT - Clipdip, I looked into it further and I want to thank you for bringing the topic to my attention, while I can’t help you with your question I did find this torque tool set specifically made for scope ring screws by Sloky who makes some very nice precision measuring tools, I’m going to look at buying and using this adjustable inch pound torque driver set to make my cap screw tightening more even and accurate, https://www.sloky.com.tw/en/product/...dapter_01.html
