    Where to Place Scope Rings???

Someone told me that the front scope ring should be set as close to the turrents as possible to prevent damage from recoil to the scope. Fact or FUD?

i ask because i'm adjusting a new setup. this is my 1st one piece base so there are many more options as to ring placement. with the two piece base, there's really nothing more to worry about besides proper relief...

It's never seemed to make a difference for me. It's not like you're shooting a 20mm cannon, right?

Place the rings as far apart as the mount will allow, ideally this will be near the mounting screws. That will provide the most support to the scope tube and the resistance to twisting the mount.
      Luck favors the prepared.

+ 1. Place them as far apart as you can. It doesn't hurt to add a third, or even fourth ring in there too on larger caliber rifles.
