Next in line after bender! HDOC PM me cause i was just dealing with this same issue and ran the arms 40L and the standard A2 front site. I just switched to a GG&G front flip down post and I like it SO MUCH BETTER! PM me if you want more insight because i did run the A2 front post for quite awhile with the Eo 512 and this is totally the wrong place to post this...

It's really personal preference. If it's too close to the BUIS, it can slow down access to the buttons. If it's overhanging the handguards, some handguards interfere with the Eotech, like fat M4 handguards and some railed ones (my MI 17X rails get in the way of my 552).

The closer it is to your eyes, the faster the aquisition is, I find, but it's not a huge difference either way.

Aside from that, if there's no plan to run a magnifier, you can put it wherever it works for you.

I like to run my EOTech as far forward on the receiver as I can get it. If I had a monolithic rail-type handguard, I'd opt for running it just in front of the receiver. For me, it blocks less of my vision, even with both eyes open. Also, in CQB-type usage, if the batteries fail or whatever, I can use the dead EOTech almost like a large peep sight a bit easier when it's a little farther forward (compared to all the way back on the receiver)--but that's just me. YMMV.

Mostly preference and what else do you have on the rail? I run my 512 about as far forward is possible because I also have an Aimpoint 3x Magnifier and BUIS.. so I only had so much room to work with. I have just enough to actuate the power buttons if the Magnifier is on. If I had no magnifier, I would likely run it further back near the BUIS.
