Long distance guys: 5-25 or 7-35?

So, thinking of going long distance now. My Tikka TAC A1 6.5 CM is waiting for me to come home. I've been looking at 5-25 FFP riflescopes to match, but I can't resist looking at 7-35 scopes too.

A precision rifle instructor told me once he doesn't use any scopes higher in power than 25x as with anything higher he finds there is too much environmental disturbance in the image anyway.

Any recommendations? Looking at Nightforce ATACR or Kahles K525i

Since your considering an Alpha level scope where 25x actually resolves at the limit of current technology, 25x is plenty for nearly any application.

I never shoot my NF 7-35 beyond 20x or so. I use 30-35x for observation.

Optically between the NF 7-35 and 5-25, the 7-35 is a tiny bit better optically and focus down to 10yards. I believe the 5-25 has better FOV.

The great thing about the 7-35 is it doesn’t have the elevation limitation that most 30x mag scopes have.

If you’ve got another $400-500 take a look at ZCO. The two top hitters in tactical scopes are Tangent Theta and Zero Compromise Optics.

Thanks, HK Dave. I'm new to precision shooting, so I'll start lower. Sounds like a 5-25 is more my level.

I'll save the TT or ZCO if I ever get into a custom bolt rifle.
