M1A Scout Scope or Aimpoint or Acog

    Hey guys

Found some articles on M1a Scout optics but nothing in terms of what i'm looking for so I figured I'd make a post and ask you more knowledgeable folks.

I've never owned a magnified optic and would like to put one on my M1A Scout.

Got close range covered with my AR and an Eotech 516.

Want something to reach out a little farther.

What scope would you slap on an M1A Scout?

Am I completely disregarding the Scout's original intent and purpose by not putting a red dot on it?

Perhaps I should be out looking for a Remington 700 Tactical for my longer range needs?

    Thank you!

    ***EDIT***

So it seems a scope isn't the best setup for the scout... so i was hoping someone could help me with the following..

#1 Is there a scope with enough eye relief that i can forward mount with a variable magnification

#2 Can you mount an aimpoint and 3x or 4x multiplier right behind it on the stock forward mount or on another mount?

#3 What about a trijicon accupoint or acog?

    Thank you!

Another question... has anyone seen the ads in magazines for the M1A soccom? It has an optic I've never seen before. Anyone know what it is?

The SOCCOM ads usually have an RDS such as an Aimpoint. The Scout isn't a long range rifle primarily because it's not a precision rifle. A factory Rem700 will outshoot a Scout at 600 yards any day of the week. That said, after going through a few different optics on my Scout, I settled on a Leupold 2.5x long eye relief scope. It can be mounted on the forward rail, works fine up close but gives you a bit of magnification that makes hits on steel at 300 yards easier than an RDS.

I've used scout scopes on a couple of rifles, and have a scoped revolver as well. I've found that the higher the magnification, the harder it is to use, especially with both eyes open. 2x works well for me, and 4x is pushing it. Other people have different limits, but it's something to consider.

I'm a big fan of red dots/holosights with a wide field of view on a rifle handguard, but you lose that long-range precision you get with magnified optics. Even so, a red dot is like a much easier to use iron sight for that use.
