EOTech HWS were designed for close in work. Still bit on the heavy side, even with the newer XPS2-0 models, when compared to Aimpoint Micros, but damn are they nice to have when you're inside confined areas.

Eotech VS ACOG

Trained there recently at Range C. Everyone had carbines and we shot at the steel silhouettes at distances closer than 100 yards. No issues with splash back...Yep, I wish they had a line of steel rifle targets at 100 yards. That's my only complaint about ASR.
I shoot my S&W 15-22 and 357 Marlin 1894 on the 40–120ish yard pistol side steel targets. It's a blast, but yeah it's not the same as doing double taps with 556.
My guess is ASR is avoiding a splash back liability issue by having the steel start so far out.
Back on topic:
With a a RDS zeroed at 50-200 yards you can hit man sized targets out to 600 yards with the right hold. It's just hard to tell the further out without a spotter. Closer than 50 yards (especially with an AR), just as with irons, you have to consider the height of the sights over bore.Comment

Have just started running one of these--
Browse a huge inventory of Optics products including Scope Rings & Mounts, & Scopes & Accessories with 4.5 rating on 2,768 reviews from verified buyers.
I switched to the Holosun from my Eotech. Not faulting the Eotech--It is a solid unit and my tired old eyes really like it.
Eotech is a laser projection, which requires more power.
Holosun is LED. Reticle is very crisp. My eyes really like this one as well. Not mentioned in the Brownells description is their motion sensor "shake awake"
feature. They also offer gold reticles for those who are color blind.
Time will tell as to durability and actual battery life.
