    Weaver K-4

Anybody out there still like using the Weaver K-4? Just picked up a very good condition used one and was impressed with the blue steel tube and the overall robustness of the design. I guess there's an outfit called Ironsights that will even rebuild them.

I've got 3 and a K-2.5. All with the post reticle. None are mounted right now. Just waiting for the right rifles.

You might check out the list in this thread on 24HourCampfire.

This topic comes up from time to time so I thought I'd post some info I ran onto recently. It's a thread on castboolits with glowing praise for L&K sc...

The word on Ironsights is good, but be prepared to wait about a year and a half for the work to be done. Not exaggerating.

I spoke to the owner of L&K Scope Repair a few years ago. He had a very good reputation. Said he that if I sent him my old V-4.5 he would return it working like it just left the factory. And his turnaround was only a few months. But the price was way more than my old scope is actually worth, so I put it off. I kinda regret that. I really love this old steel variable! His web site is gone now. He didn't strike me as a young man at all, and I fear the worst.

I'm still using a mid 1950s one my great uncle bought new and gave me in the late 60s. It's on my Ruger No1 RSI 30-06 now.

I had one of those older K-4's some time ago.The one's that had "El Paso" stamped on the underside. Good old scope. Wish I would have kept it.

They are neat old things. That V-4.5 of mine, if it was in good working order (won't go into details) I would put it on dad's/grandad's Winchester Model 54 bolt gun. Not exactly of the same vintage, but they're both real old. Rifle was made ca. 1930 and the scope was probably made some time in the 1950s.

Anyway, here is another shop, this one's in Montana, that does repairs and restorations on old scopes:

Kinda pricey. Servicing starts at $100 looks like. And if somebody wants their scope fully restored, that gets really expensive. Nobody would ever get their money back out of it. But if an old scope has sentimental value, and if the owner has the money to spend....
