scope size and ring recommendations for Marlin 60

    Hey guys,

I have a Marlin 60 that I would like to put a scope on. Actually, I have had a scope on it, and it was very accurate, but would like to do it up the right way.

I bought a set of the weaver rings at walmart for 10 bucks and put a simmons 3-9x50 scope on it (the only scope I have). Gun shoots great with it, but I feel it might be too much scope for a .22, and the rings, no matter how much I tightened them, kept sliding on the dove tail.

I would like to do this right without having to constantly adjust it. I also suspect that tightening the rings the way I was before was leading to some malfunctions after shooting around 150 rounds. After I went back to iron sights and took the scope and rings off, the malfunctions stopped.

    Thanks for the input guys.

    is 3-9x50 too big for a .22?

That's a bit more scope than I'd put on my .22.

      I'd go 2-7x32 ideally.

I have the same rifle and the same sliding problem.... I have seen 3/8 dovetail to weaver adaptors that have alot more surface area and locking screws grabbing the 3/8.... makes sence to distribute the recoil over 4 contacts vs. 2.. saw it at optics planet

If anyone has tried this let us know...

I figured it might be too much scope, but have heard of others running similar setups on 10/22's, so figured I would ask.

Anybody got any feedback on the riser red rocket posted, or any other ideas?

I have a Leupold 2-7x32 that I mostly run on a 10-22, and it's a pretty good fit. Still a bit large, but not bad, and good balance.

One of my Marlin 60s has an ancient Japanese Tasco 4x - a skinny little rimfire scope that's pretty perfect for plinking.

The other thing that I'd consider is a small, light red dot. MAX100 just posted a review on the new Konus micro red dot, and Primary Arms has one that's had good reviews as well. You'd need a dovetail to Weaver adapter, though.

do you have any scope creep problems?

My Marlin with the Tasco doesn't have scope creep problems. It's probably been mounted on there for decades, and because it's very light, it's not as prone to moving around.

yeah, I figured the mass of the other scope might have something to do with it moving around.

I don't know why honestly but a lot of the local smallbore guys run some huge scopes on their setups. I guess its just a preference, but they're running scopes that are like an 8-24x50 and what not. Some monster nikko stirling scopes, a couple of leupy's, and more.
