    Scope on AR carry handle

I'm considering putting a scope on AR 15 carry handle but it seem like it would be to high.

Does anyone mount a scope on AR with built in carry handle? What scope do you use?

It's not an ideal mount. but it's about the right height.

      It's not an ideal mount.
Is that because the machining of the mount that fits in the groove of my carry handle may not be good or closely enough for a flex free mounting of a scope?

It worked for decades and I've known some very accomplished shooters in Army circles who still use carry handle mounted optics. In the olden days the mounts just weren't solid enough, having to fit through the hole on the carry handle as the single point of retention. With a Picatinny rail you get a much more solid and modular platform.

Some of the Trijicon ACOG sights mount directly to carry, no separate mount is needed. This seem like a really good option except the ACOG scopes are very expensive.

I've got a 2X compact ACOG mounted on the carry handle of an AR15; haven't shot it much so I can't really give any feedback. I would like to use it in a class to put it through its paces. One thing I'm wondering is if both the optic and the iron sights are zeroed at 50 yards for example, will the point of impact be the same for the optics and the iron sights at other distances?

What's the model number? Does it have decent eye relief? I wear glasses and my vision is not what it used to be.

Barska 20mm 4x carry handle scope

I have one of these I purchased for about $50 from Midway. It actually works pretty well, its a copy of the original Colt 4x20 scope.

For the money (low) it's a decent scope, and comes with an elevation adjustment dial. I use it on an AR carbine with a 22 conversion kit and it is great. Edit to add, I wear glasses too and this scope works well with them.

That scope certainly is an option.

Does it mount to carry handle with one bolt like the ACOG?
How bright and clear are the optics in low light?

TA47R-4, it's got the red crosshair reticle. Eye relief is 2.1 inches; you need to keep your nose fairly close to the charging handle.

I got one of these for a retro AR that I put together a while back. But mine must of been made on a Monday morning or something because it tends to lose it's zero after 20-25 rounds?

I just bought one of those too:

                          ($49.99, includes free shipping)

Haven't mounted or used it yet, but it appears solidly built.

I have one of the C-More 4x Colt clones, and it's OK, but is probably one of my least used scopes. I should probably sell the durn thing.

I mounted a scope on the CH of my DPMS A2 .22 upper to get some test groups with, and it would be pretty near unusable for routine shooting. I much prefer a red dot/holosight mounted on a gooseneck mount or even on the rail.

                            This was the groups setup:

And the general plinking setup - very stable, no shifts even though it's on the non-FF rail, but I don't use premium ammo in this setup.

Since then, I've picked up a few goosenecks, but haven't put much time on them. Whether they're more stable than the rail depends on the fit of the mount to the carry handle, which can vary quite a lot.

There are 2 mounts that you can use with a carry handle, and here they are:

Than you can decide which scope or dot to use.
