    Help me pick a scope

Why so much magnification? Are you hunting or shooting paper? Whichever it is, at what distances? I wasted a lot of money on high magnification scope when I first got into rifles just to realize later they did not fit my needs.

What do you intend to use the Tikka for? If it's hunting you want something that's lower magnification than both of those, but is durable and lightweight.

I have the Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 for my Bergara HMR in 6.5 creedmoor, but it's for long range target shooting, not hunting.

What is your Tikka chambered for, are you looking for an MOA or MRAD reticle, duplex, MDC, Mil Dot?

The Vortex is a pretty bright scope, but so are Leupolds. I ultimately settled on the Vortex for the warranty, really.

This will be my start at bolt action, just shooting paper for now. Tikka is 6.5 creed. My thingking is get a better scope now just incase I decide to upgrade the rifle later.

You cant go wrong with the vortex. Especially at the price points they are at right now.

I have the Vortex on my 6.5CM Bergara HMR, and I compared it to the Burris XTR II when I bought mine, since they were both the same price.

The Vortex will go the distance for sure, to get something significantly "better" you will be spending a lot more money. There are a lot of quality scopes though, in the $1000-1200 range.

Are you someplace where you would be able to peer through the ones you are considering? I.e. near a gun store? Pick which one your eyes see the best picture through. Also what reticle you want to use can help narrow it down.

Why only those two scopes? If you're trying to max out your scope, you could go higher and get something like the Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56mm.

This doesn't have a zero stop, but glass will be better than the vortex

The PST Gen II in the 5-25x is a no brainer, I have looked far and wide for a better scope at a better price and nothing exists. $699 is a killer deal. Best value to price ratio that I have found.

I've seen few putting nylon washers in turret housing to make it homemade zero stop . I have thought about doing it on my 3-9 , but I rarely need to dial up . but yea
OP should definitely look into swfa . very nice glass

I would look at athlon scopes, either the ares ETR or the cronus BTR.

The Ares ETR Gen2 first focal plain rifle scope is loaded with features to take you long range shooting game to the next level. Comes with UHD glass that has extra low dispersion giving you an advantage with an image that has little or no chromatic fringe for the ultimate clearest and sharpest image. Ares ETR Gen2 also has the precision zero stop system that allows you to return to your initial zero position with a sharp and precise stop right at zero. No more bumping turrets with Athlons locking turrets that allow you to pull up on your turret to dial and push it back down to lock it in place.

Buy this scope and get a $250.00 gift certificate! A gift certificate with a code will be automatically added to your cart. From 3gun competition, tactical applications, or close range hunting, the new Cronus BTR GEN2 1-6×24 UHD is just what the doctor ordered. Rated as one of the best LPVO (Low Power Variable Optic) scopes, the ATSR2 SFP IR MOA reticle is specifically designed for 3 gun competition and tactical applications. With hold over points for both bullet drop and wind compensation, the ATSR2 reticle is designed for 68 and 69 grain BTHP 223 Rem/5.56mm NATO rounds. It is also suitable for many other bullet weights in these calibers. The 1.4 moa red dot is perfect for zeroing your rifle scope at 200 yards and the open centers below the center red dot are for targets at 300, 400, 500, and 600 yard. The unique design of open centers eliminates target obstruction with 12~18 inch targets beyond 200 yards, allowing a shooter to take a quick shot. The openings on horizontal lines below the center are specially designed for holding over 5 mph and 10 mph wind. All the attributes of an ideal designated marksman rifle scope, with features equally suitable for the modern hunter or an operators DMR. This DMR scope is ideally suited for anyone looking for solution to short range and mid-range applications, whether you dial or holdover. First Focal Plane MOA and MIL based reticles. A titan in long-range precision, the Cronus BTR GEN2 is an ideal competition scope for your PRS rifle or PRS trainer rifle. Poor weather and low light conditions are no match for UHD extra-low dispersion lenses. Cut through the mirage and leave the competition in the dust. From precision shooting to the most demanding hunt, the Cronus BTR GEN2 is up to the challenge. The next generation of the Cronus BTR is now equipped with our applauded internal stainless-steel component turret design producing sharp, loud, tactile clicks. Agree. I use a 4x Leupold on my BDL.

At most a 2x7 or 3x9 for the Tikka.

I’d say, at the most, a 12 power for hunting under 500-yards because that is the break point for parallax adjustment, above 12X and you have another adjustment (knob or on the objective bell) to make to dial the image into perfect clarity, the mechanism also adds a little weight and bulk, but at high power settings you're usually not stocking and setting the power to a low setting so the parallax doesn't come into play so much...

OP, between your two choices go with the Vortex. Better in every way.
