    Which Mount for my AR-15

    Flat Top, Pics below

    My Scope - Weaver 1-3x20mm

    or

Will these mounts accommodate my scope, and which would provide me with the best eye relief. Please excuse my ignorance, I am new to optics and fairly new to shooting

The ADMs are good mounts. The Recon-X will give the most eye relief, but the question is how much you need, which depends on the scope and how you shoot. Many people who shoot nose to charging handle need an extended mount, while people who shoot further back on the stock can often go with either.

Best bet is to figure out where the eyepiece needs to be in relationship to the charging handle and see if it looks like the mount will let you put the scope there.

Mount the rifle to your shoulder as usual, and either have someone hold the scope where your view through it is optimal, or loosely mount it in a single ring that will allow you to change the position.

Once you figure it out, note where the eyepiece is relative to the charging handle - how far behind or in front of it. Then look at how the scope would fit in the mount and whether it would go where you need it to. This is usually affected by whether the eyepiece or the adjustment cluster will limit the forward offset.

Unfortunately, it's not an easy thing to check with 100% confidence the first time. Once you get it figured out, it's a lot easier to tell for future setups.

            1" is 25.4mm, 30mm is 1.18".

Technically, the main difference between them is 30mm has more adjustment range for windage and elevation, all else being the same.

Generally, 30mm scopes are from the more expensive lines, but there are very good and expensive 1" scopes, and inexpensive 30mm scopes.

It really doesn't matter that much unless you're going to be doing long range shooting (like out past 500 yards), and then the extra elevation can make a difference, though many long range shooters go with a mount with built-in elevation.

              ar mount

Since your just starting out It seems to me like a little over kill on the mount, I would try to get a basic mount and see if your going to like shooting first before wrapping up 200.00 dollars in a mount alone, I know myself and others have used a lot cheaper mount with great results and then if you decide later to upgrade the glass and mount maybe go that route but here is a mount I am saying is reasonable to start and then down the road maybe move up , others have had good results with this without any issues and sounds like it should work for you for a lot less money, The command arms mount is around 30.00 dollars and has everything to fit a 30mm tube or 1 inch included-Also the burris AR-P.E.P.R is worth looking at also but you have to order it for whatever the scope size is and is around 80.00 dollars and is also a good alternative for the money if you want a little higher end mount than the command arms and it will not break the bank, just my opinion , http://www.maxicon.com/guns/optics/caa/caa_dvsr.htm

                Mount

Just wanted to let you know that the mount you had picked out is definately a nice mount and I like quality pieces I just feel its a little more than needed but if you have the money and dont mind spending it by all means go with it, The command arms mount I had talked about is mounted on another members Ar-15 in the link I am sending so you can see how it looks mounted and his comments on his setup and holding zero as well as tracking , Just giving my opinion is all http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=175033
